Healing chronic chapped lips

Hm, no pre mix I don't think. They are both 100% pure, no additives or anything. The tea tree oil was medical grade and the coconut oil cooking grade. I read the user reviews to make sure I was getting something that other people have tested on their face/body. I realize the tea tree oil is pretty potent stuff. I may test it on my arm or something first? But anyway, thanks for the tip, I will research that for sure.

This is what I purchased in case anyone was interested or has other experience/advice:

yeah good-idea, maybe try it on your arm first.

Tea Tree is potent stuff!
it is a good heads up, in-case anyone went to try Tea Tree with out any sort of understanding that it might burn a little!

personally
, my whole face would probably turn red after that...

Yikes! Yeah, that's what I read. I read to try diluting it with another oil like olive oil or something, or water. Shit my face already burns, I don't need more burning! ah! I guess if it really does end up burning my rash I can use the tea tree oil for other stuff instead.

During the hotter months, I usually get pretty bad chapped lips..So bad to the point where i can't even open my mouth wide enough to eat :\ I've been using Lucas Papaw Ointment and ill swear by it.

It's great stuff for other things too.

Hey firefighter, addictivepersona and all other chapped lip sufferers...
There is a cream called DermAid, which has a very small amount of cortisone in it, which might help firefighter... I'm fair sure it's available OTC at the chemist too.
You might like to use it alternately with someothing like ungvita, which has is more or less a vaseline type jelly with added vitamin A, and promotes healing. These two are what saves me whenever I have problems with cheilitis, irritated eyelids or other dermatitisy type things going on.

As far as a regular preventery type job, Blistex lip conditioner is the bombdiggitty!!

All the best :-)

ive seen it said now that "flavored" balm/chapped-stick tempts people to lick their lips, helping dry them out.

allergens too - there arent too many common things that can cause this; citrus, and cinnamon are examples. something makes me want to make a leap and imagine different food or drink dyes might do the same...understanding what there is that is common which might cause a chronic-problem could be good - preventative maintenance and such.

if you are using tea tree oil on your face you should use only a small amount e.g. drops per 50ml of a heavy base oil like wheatgerm or advocado or vitamin e oil so it does not burn, also mix a couple of drops of lavender in with that as it reduces burning feeling and lessens the redness.
Tea tree oil is brilliant but a lot of these oils in lip balms are mixed with other ingredients to stop it drying out your lips so you get the benefit of the antibacterial, anti fungal properties from it.
you can easily mix up your own lip balm for very little cost.

melt one tablespoon of beeswax add in eight drops coconut oil a teaspoon of honey and 6 drops of lemon oil (or peppermint or orange oil) mix it till all blended pour into your jar and leave to set. if you want it a bit firmer add more beeswax or if you want it runnier add a little more of your base oil.
another easy recipe for for lip balm is shea butter.
2 tablespoons of shea butter, 1 spoonful of vitamin e oil, 1 teaspoon of beeswax, 1/2 teaspoon of honey, 2 tablespoons of almond oil and 6 drops of essential oil of your choice, once again melt all together and make sure it is blended through then pour into a pot to set.

Whoa thanks for the recipes tiggerific! I think I'm going to try that for sure when my supplies arrive. Where can one purchase beeswax? Do you think if I just mix a few drops of the tea tree oil in with a blob of the coconut oil that would work?

Also Adelady, thanks for the tip on the DermAid. Cortisone might be a good idea. If these new treatments don't work, I'll wait a few days and see if I can try that. From your diction I assume you're in Australia.... I will see if we have that here in the US or some equivalent.

buy beeswax from soap making companies and make up making companies, quite easy to get, quite sure you will find suppliers on ebay as well :) very easy to mix up and use.
the beeswax actually helps seal in the the moisture so you do not feel the need to lick your lips making them dry out more. yes you can use tea tree oil with the mix. the coconut oil on its own will be too oily and you may be temnpted to rub your lips more and touching them can give more bacteria a home to breed there and make it worse. hope it helps :)

I just wanted to report that I used the tea tree oil on my dry dermatitis-y rash on my face, and while it hasn't shown significant improvement on the rash quite yet... I wanted to add that I straight up put 100% tea tree oil with no additives or carrier oils to my face and it didnt burn or get red. It tingled a bit, but it was a good tingle. Note, I did not put a ton of it on, I took a q-tip and just dotted it on where I wanted it. I don't think you're supposed to ingest it but I accidentally licked some off my lip and it tasted kinda good lol.

I wouldn't suggest putting it directly on your lips. I'd put it in vegetable glycerin first or something. It's extremely potent and can actually do damage to your skin / lips.

It's kind of like on the outer edges of my lips. I will take note of that though, I'll try to put some kind of oil/moisturizer down first or something. I was thinking about just mixing it up with some of my moisturizer and putting that on.

If you have Dermatitis put on some hydro-cortizone I do that when I get it on my face and it makes it go away. The regular stuff works fine but I also have stuff that's got aloe in it that works well.

If it's really annoying/bothersome and you can afford it try seeing a dermatologist and see what they say.

burts beezwax is the shit. I just don't like how it makes your lips all white.

there is a lip ointment that I use to love. It came in a green tube and was pretty expensive. It was a liquid gel type substance, and it gave your lips a really smooth minty fresh feel. After a couple times of using it, your lips will be fucking silky smooth and healthy as fuck. Fuck.

I got some random homemade beeswax lip balm from a farmers market, and its' the shit. I have a really bad habit of biting/picking at my lips :( so theyre usually chapped and cracked.. and I hate it. Chapstick is alright (they have this raspberry lemonade stuff that tastes so good I just want to eat it all) but beeswax is the way to go.

Im not entirely sure its the reason why its no longer a problem for me.. BUT i had this problem for months untill i started eating about 250 grams of blue and or rasberrys everyday. No longer a problem.. I started doing this in regard to my new bodybuilding diet and ever since i havent been plagued by chapped lips.. Hope this can help you

Vitamins! They work well when you eat them! lol..... I don't know I just think that if you eat actual FOODS with the vitamins in them they are utilized so much better than a pill where it feels like you just pee them out. *personal opinion*

On a side note, my rash thingy went away! I don't know why actually, I've tried a combo of tea tree oil/coconut oil/vaseline... and I quit using my prescription acne meds. I'm gonna opt for the more natural route in my skin care routine from now on. Those hardcore chems were really wreaking havoc on my face!
