it was a season of three years,
and I remember it well,
I can't believe it happened the way it did.
when my best friend died,
oh I cried and cried,
but nothing would fix it in the end.
feels like I lay in bed,
for three long years and in the end,
nothing was mended --
and what I needed to do was stop pretendin'.

(chorus)
it was a hazy summer,
a hazy summer,
it was a hazy summer.

it was the best of times,
but I was dead inside,
our souls ran dry in the summer heat.
we'd spend all our money,
on dirty laundry,
it all haunts me to this day.
sometimes I'd silently pray,
I'd find some color in the grey,
I wanted to say --
that I was over it all but that wasn't the case.

(chorus)
it was a hazy summer,
a hazy summer,
it was a hazy summer.

it was a hazy summer,
a hazy summer,
it was a hazy summer.

I remember when my grandfather died recently when I read that. I could relate to everything not seeming as awesome as it should be. I think you've captured that well.:)
