Hay fever medication

My doctor prescribed fluticasone (Flonase) and you can get it over the counter as well. This is an inhaled corticosteroid. You didn't say what your symptoms are. Some people prefer decongestants or antihistamines.

My symptoms are mainly runny nose and itchy eyes.

If these are your symptoms and they are severe, I would recommend a 2nd generation antihistamine (I prefer cetirizine but they all do pretty well), a nasal corticosteroid, and an antihistamine eye drop. Allergies are a bitch to treat and severe sufferers usually need multiple meds with different routes of administration.

I have no idea what needs a prescription in the UK but a call to your doctor or pharmacy will answer that question. If you wind up having to see your doctor, adding montelukast either instead of or in addition to the oral antihistamine may be a good idea.
