Technical Problem Having trouble posting my profile picture.

I'm having trouble with my picture. The directions say to just post the link to your picture in the "picture" box on your profile page. So I put in [*] http://ntiwtkot.files.wordpress.com/2010/08/darthvader.jpg [*] (withought the brackets and asteriks)..

I tried hitting "save" and all that comes up is the URL I typed in. The picture doesn't show up.

Then I tried typing in the image code using: [#IMG] http://ntiwtkot.files.wordpress.com/2010/08/darthvader.jpg[#/IMG] (Without the #s)
And still, all that shows up is "[#IMG]http://ntiwtkot.files.wordpress.com/2010/08/darthvader.jpg[#/IMG]" (again, without the #s).

Is there something I am doing wrong? :! The picture is 360x360 pixels and should be small enough to fit (or is it not? Could that be the problem?)

I'd appreciate any help. Again I'm trying to make this my profile picture and not just post it in a post.

Edit: If I take the #s out in this post, the picture actually shows up in the post, it just won't work when trying to set it as my picture.

You have two options, upload from an online source or upload from your computer.

If you choose to upload from an online source, please note that the box in which you can put the image URL alrady has the "http://www." prefix added. Adding a full URL (which already has "http://www." prefixed to it) will simply result in an error message.

Irrespective of which method you utilise, there are limits on the size of file you can use. According to the upload screen, "the maximum size of your custom image is 100 by 100 pixels or 9.8 KB (whichever is smaller)".

I attempted to use your picture and it was not accepted, probably as it exceeds those limitations.

Consider resizing the picture and uploading the resized picture to a image hosting provider of your choice.
 
Thank you so much! I thought the pixel limit was bigger, guess that's my problem! Once I get my laptop back I'll definitely try the resizing thing, can't do it on my iPad I'd imagine. But you helped me a ton! Thanks again!! :D
 
i suspect you might mean 'avatar'?

Omg, you resized it for me? <3 thanks soooo much! Can you explain the difference between the profile pic and the avatar pic? Can they be different? I'm guessing the avatar is the one that appears next to all your posts and your profile is when someone actually looks at your profile? Is that right? Or is there more of a use for the profile pic? And where do I make my avatar, I see the edit profile pic when I go to my profile, but I can't find the avatar (maybe its not giving me full site options on my iPad, I'll prolly have to wait til my computer is back)

yes, and yes!

click on the "settings" link at the top of the page -the edit avatar option is directly underneath the edit profile picture option, on the left hand side. you should be able to do all this on your iPad.
 
Wow! Sweet! They worked! <3 now my takeover of the galaxy is complete! Hehe! Thanks a ton! After I uploaded them, it said "upload of pic failed", but I just ignored that and clicked to view my profile, and it seemed to work, so I dunno what it meant by failed..but it worked, both the avatar and the profile pic! YaY! :D
