There are days when I feel as though the sun will never shine. Those days are contrasted by the ones when it seems to be blinding me. I wish I could capture all the days when things seem so right and put them in a box. That way when I was having a dark day I could just open that box and invite the sunshine to consume me.
Although I feel that I do not have that power, I do. I have the power to change my thinking. I have the power to believe that I am in control of my feelings and thoughts. If I can change those negative thoughts than I can allow the sun to shine even when it is raining.
All I have to do is face the hurt and darkness, acknowledge its existence and deal with my reactions, then cast them aside and realize that I am one of the luckiest people on the earth.
Realize that there are people in the world with much less that do much more. People who suffer through terrible heartache, yet rise above it to conquer their demons.
And so I realize that people who are smiling are not lucky, they are thankful. That people who are laughing have endured their share of heartahce and sadness, but they face it with a grin and in turn allow me to smile. They project their happiness on to me.
So now I think, when I smile, I can make you smile, and when I am angry I can make you angry. But, the world has given me far more to smile about than cry about.
