<Edit to give more of my opinions>

When I bought my first tester from CandyFlip way back when he had his own web site, no-one knew what they were and dud pills were all over the place.

"Fastforward to present day"
I have not seen a dud (non MD?) pill in some time. Even if I purchase in a club from someone I dont know (yes I know this is dumb) I only ever get offered good pills.

Are there still many dud pills out there ? If there has been a change is it because of the testers or the fact that there is now a market for the stuff they used to pretend was MD?.

Your thoughts ?

In theory yes, but in reality i wouldnt necessarily think so.

For every one person who owns a tester, there would be another 10 that dont.

Then there are the circumstances where those that do test their pills, dont use their tester (e.g i left it at home, a nightclub hook up, getting carried away with the moment etc). I for one am gulity of that.

Plus drug cooks are in it for the $$. If they can churn out speed or k bombs and there is a market for them, they will - look at the popular mainstream misconception that ecstacy will make you dance for 20 hours straight. That misconception in itself is enough to keep the market flooded with speed bombs.

I'd like to think so, but I agree, in reality the effect has probably been minimal.

Remember this community is very much about harm minimisation but there is still a shitload of ignorance out there in the wider community.

Some dealers are really good about allowing tester use prior to purchase. Unfortunately most aren't. Case in point: a friend was looking at buying a large quality of pills, but (quite reasonably) wanted to test one on the spot first to see their quality. The dealer refused. So the friend left. Asking the person who hooked him up with said dealer later, he was told if he didn't buy them untested, there were a thousand others who would. :\

I know 90% of my friends who take pills don't know about testers. I'm doing my darndest to educate them, but quite frankly they still don't worry that much. They know I have a tester and yet they'll still pop pills around at my house without even asking to test it first. I have to intercept and offer. There's clearly a lot of work to be done before anyone involved in the business of pill manufacture or dealing sees testers as a threat to profits and lifts their standards accordingly. Unfortunately.

However we can all help by being more dilligent and discriminating. The more of us testing and rejecting untested pills, the more power the buyer will have and hopefully, the safer the market will get.

I've owned several testers, but only ever used them once my pill has been purchased. Unfortenately for me, I still have recieved dud pills over the last 3 years.

Luckily, At the moment I have a REALLY good dealer who I know I can buy off, drop, closes my eyes and have a good time. My dealer tests his pills, and he always drops himself before selling to anyone. <--- I know this isn't a reason not to test.

Still.. I'm not saying that people shouldent use testers, USE THEM! - There only $20.00 - and atleast you have some piece of mind!

Spaaanks!

Yes....I think they have. Alot more people are educated now, from the internet and sometimes dealers aswell. I think it has improved a hell of alot from when I was new to it all.

On a side point

IMO people only start to educate themselves and use testers after they get have been burnt a few times. If people are not getting burnt as much now they would not have a percieved need to educate.

Will this lead to a drop in the number of testers and a rise in the number of dud pills ?

Yes, there most certainly is. In the last few months I've been sold 3 lots of duds. Purple "stars" (no test reaction), Red "V"s (no reaction) and brown blanks (no reaction).

Mainly my bad luck is because I lost my regular contact, and these were bought from people who I did not have a 'testing' arrangement with, but duds are definitely still out there. I stopped buying pills 2 months ago and it was mainly an enforced break because I was sick of getting ripped off. It has been a blessing for my health though :)

I have only had my tester for a couple of months now.

Up until today, I have always got good gear, but today it seems I have wasted my money.

Unfortunately my normal supply has become unreliable, in the sense that the s/he has been having problems sourcing pills.

So I had to use another source, wasn't able to use my tester till they arrived, third hand. We were told they were tiptop, but upon testing there was NO reaction all.. :) Pillreports came back with a report these are speed based, but I got no reaction at all !

Called the DD back, sorry no refunds! They suggested on-selling, which I have philospohical and moral objection in doing, so they are going down the loo.

I think having a reliablable or perhaps honest/reputable DD helps alot more than a test kit.

^^ Exactly - and you can nearly always trust the tester... stick to your guns, never hand over cash until you get a test result. If they won't let you test it, then find another drug dealer. It's not like dealers are rare...

^^^^^ Pillreports has made a difference i would say, but there still seems to be people reporting pills as good even though they are complete shit.

for example, alot of newbies seem to mistaken a speed and K bomb as MDMA ..

Also pillreports are useful to really only areas where lots of pills come in bulk, other areas different pills come and go before they are even reported on pillreports ..

But back onto if there are duds still around, i can tell you there has been a shitload of K and speed bombs around in oz latly, and if pills contained MDMA they were either very weak or very strong but very low in numbers..

meh .. time for 2cb to make its debut

Aaaaand, yet another batch of duds passed my sorry way this weekend. "Blue Sky's" - no, not the originals which were shit hot, but badly pressed, locally made rip-offs containing nothing but weak speed. :(

Unless you insist on using the tester before purchasing, it's not going to put any pressure on the dealer to keep quality at a respectable level. Once the cash has changed hands, testing doesnt matter a shit to a sure majority of dealers... Take 3munch3r's story for example.

The other factor I see at play here is that the number of new drug users each month must outstrip the number of people who learn of, and purchase testers.

Check out this thread - Pill Testing in Australia- Making Ecstasy test kits culture - it's pinger's work, and worth reading.

:)

I tend to think not. I like the question, because it sort of relates to my question How much of the communtiy does bluelight represent? ~(sorry i have no idea how to do a link)~

But i think that as time goes on, as we ''Bluelighters'' or even non-Bluelighters who are educated and have tester kits tend to associate with people that know about these sort of things.

The expansion of the acceptance of E is huge, and i think that alot of the newbies at raves/clubs etc (greenlighters too) would be relatively the same as when we started in terms of proportion.

^ Hopefully as more people see pilltesting stands at parties they'll learn that all pills are not created equally, and that there are ways to ensure you don't get ripped off buying wack pills.
