1. Freeze material
2. Blend (or grind) material into fine powder
3. Heat in MEK in a container covered with a tubed stopper (put the tube out of the window to divert the fumes) in a boiling water bath
4. Flush a coffee filter with MEK
5. Filter solution
6. Dry extract thoroughly
7. Blend (or shake vigerously) dried extract in a heptane/H2O mixture
8. Let the layers separate
9. Siphon off the heptane layer
10. Dry extract thoroughly
11. Scrape and store
Basically, here are my ideas on the whole topic:
MEK has the advantage over acetone of not evaporating as easily. This means that during step 3, there will be less vapors. However, it should still retain the ability of acetone to get high yields from the plant matter. I also figure that some amount of decarboxylation will occur during step 3.
Next, during the heptane/H2O wash, any sugars pulled out by the MEK should enter the H2O phase, while the cannabinoids will remain in the heptane phase.
Also, thinking of doing the MEK portion by getting a ball jar, ventilating with plastic tubing and putting in a pot with boiling water. Close as I can really get to a lab setup.
Any criticisms or changes?
