Has there been a change in ecstasy over the years?

My assumption is that back in those days... the E was actually a mixture of MDA, speed and MDMA hence packing quite a punch, whilst nowadays... "molly" is usually methylone and other RC's.

I guess a real answer to this question would be : Yes, 'ecstasy' has changed.

Because of the abundance of research chemicals and their easy access.

MDMA has stayed the same though. :)

Nice link Folley! 1996 looks like a bad year on paper...
Maybe a reflection of the music scene?

It's more because for whatever reason all their data has "-- unidentified". Looks like a data problem.

But you can see that the *nature* of the adulterants has changed. Common adulterants were MDA and MDE -- both pretty "close" to MDMA, much closer than piperazines or methylone.

DXM pills were also common, but that is so far from MDMA that almost *anybody* should be able to tell bunk.

Looks like caffeine was the most common stimulant additive to give "push". That's actually not a bad additive -- it's a stimulant to help "push", but milder than something like methamphetamine or pseudoephedrine, so side effects will be milder.
