That animals eyes explain every reason why they've never been able to exhibit much off the hand of logical reasoning? They are permanently dilated thus meaning they must be permanently "trapped"in a state of psychedelic euphoria!!!!!!!!!! Just a wild explanation that i gave to a group of friends while coming down from candy-flipping, but hah id like your two cents.

My dog is quite smart (border collie/Australian shepherd mix), when I smoke pot he and I seem to be on the same wavelength. I don't think I believe that animals are constantly in the psychedelic mindset, though I tend to think they have a better understanding of the workings of the natural universe (the concept of oneness). Unlike many humans who do all they can to prolong their life, animals seem to seek death when the start to become enfeebled (dogs wander off to die, etc), which leads me to believe that they understand that it's nothing to be feared.

I dont believe they "know" or "understand". I think they just do what feels right to them, and what feels right to them is interpreted as something greater by us. They are merely designed to exist, to flow. I also disagree that they don't fear death. Fear seems to be the ruling emotion in animals. It is what drives them.

Fear of death from predators = nests, caves, niches, fight or flight refelx, etc
Fear death from hunger = finding food
Fear of death from thirst - find water

The only basic actions that seem unaffected by fear is the desire to reproduce.

An understandable interpretation, though I think it's unfair to simply rule out intelligent thought of another species as we ourselves don't, and likely won't, fully understand it. I certainly agree that some animals are of inferior intelligence, but I also believe that there are a number of species with intelligent though processes very close to our own, maybe not to the same degree, but I certainly believe intelligent thought exists among other species. And, ultimately, I think that all life, including that of humans, is designed to merely exist, or to flow as you put it. Owing to our ego as a species, we've just built ourselves up to believe we are more than mere animals. Just my two cents. :D

Are you still high?

This... I understand coming up with some absurdly unrealistic but amusing nonetheless idea like that whilst tripping your balls off but it seriously weirds me out when some physconauts truely believe this type of idea when they're sober! I also understanding gaining or learning things from a trip, but dang people eating acid doesn't answer the questions of the universe for you and because you had an epiphany whilst tripping doesn't make it true! I have trouble telling if this thread is a joke or not, if so it is funny.

So many things wrong with the question I don't even know where to start.

It's a pretty interesting and novel concept, and I'm sure we would all love to believe it. But unfortunately it's most likely that animals simply aren't self-aware.

...Or maybe they are and just aren't telling us because they've figured out that it's amusing for them that we think they're under our control! Oh jesus!

But unfortunately it's most likely that animals simply aren't self-aware.

Why on earth would you think that? Given that, just like humans, animals have brains and central nervous systems and display a whole range of emotions I'd have thought that they almost certainly are self-aware, just less so than we are.

Saying that they most likely aren't is human arrogance at its worst :p

Okay, so, animals always have black eyes because the irises and whites of their eyes are pigmented.

You see, it's advantageous for the other animals not to know where they're looking. Monkeys do it all the time- their head might be tilted down at the floor, in submission to a bigger monkey, but in actually the little monkey is looking around, watching the situation.

It's an extreme social evolution that we have whites and colored eyes. It means that it's incredibly easy to see where other people are looking! To each one of us it might be a disadvantage, since people know where you're looking (like at her tits). But for total social cohesion and for success of the whole species, it's a beneficial thing.

CONCLUSION:
We are the only species who can meaningfully roll their eyes 8)

ausieblues: I wasnt making a statement about intelligence at all. I was merely stating that animals DO fear death, and that it appears to be the main driving force behind living things. The want to survive.

I disagree that animals arent self aware. I believe there self awareness is lesser than ours, but do to there lack of ego they are much more connected to the earth. They only take what they need, and dont ever seem to have self-destructive habits like that in humans.

Dilated eyes is merely an effect of non sobriety. But in no way is non sobriety an effect of dilated eyes.

There is definitely something to be said about the non sober state of mind being more like an animals. Especially psychs. From experience Id say it has much to do with more sensitive senses.

aussie I know what you mean about your dog, I have a German Shepard mix (she looks like an aus shepard though) but when im on psychs I feel so incredibly connected to her, she is a very smart dog.

very interesting tho, i know a few of the hardest times ive fried ive felt very animal like and have seen a few friends fry out and think move around like one.

I think it has more to do with the underdeveloped frontal lobes of their brain than the fact they may have dialated eyes, although possibly one is a byproduct of the other.

=D The dolphins are in charge...

Like others have said, its got nothing to do with animals physical eyes. They are clearly "concious"; just in a different manner to our own; no better or worse, just different...

Cats are only animal I think that are like constantly tripping... sometimes they see some halucinations becose they stare at wall like some mouse is running there or something when nothing is moving on wall.
