SSRI's and AP's are not clean meds - you should know this. They are FAR from it, especially the anti-psychotics (even the 2nd generation ones). Tapering off benzos, however, is not a bad thing if you would rather a life without them, and they offer more bad for you than they do good. In tapering off benzos, I'd recommend slowly switching from your current benzo, whatever it may be, or multiple benzos, whatever they may be, to an equipotent dose of diazepam (Valium) or chlordiazepoxide (Librium). Once you are on a dose of either of those benzos which is equal to what you are now taking (benzo-wise, of course), you begin to taper very slowly for maximum comfort and safety. How long it takes varies between different benzo dependences and/or addictions. Just be careful as to what you use to deal with whatever psychiatric issues you suffer, as many substances used in the world of psychiatry are not clean, like I said. Even SSRI's create dependence, although not addiction, and have potentially serious "discontinuation syndromes" (wd's). But, I am not bashing them, really, just saying be aware, as aware and knowledgeable as you can be about your own condition and the drugs you take, as well as other non-drug therapies which you might respond to well. Like I said, just know your shit. That is really such a plus in avoiding harming yourself in any way of taking away your quality of life unnecessarily.
