I'd really like to know if anyone else had symptoms for months after stopping using speed or meth. after using crystal meth (known as p here in new zealand) fairly consistently for the past five years. I've finally given it away. I haven't had any for the past three months and can honestly say i never want to see it again. However i would really like to know how long this restless feeling in your legs lasts, also hot flushes and needing to rush to the loo all the time. has anyone else been through this and know how long it lasts? have been taking benzos (one or two a day) whenever possible and these really seem to help but i have never been any good at getting anything from drs so can only get a few here and there from other ppl
I am also on methadone and this seems to help quite a bit for about six hours after i have my daily dose i feel almost normal.

what's your methadone dose ? is it daily MMT ? What you are saying sounds more like the physical sides of opiates waring off - granted im not a meth user, been there n back, but the addiction with meth is a severe mental one.

ok i got a little confused there.

so youre off the meth now. you are taking benzos "here and there" and you are also on methadone...

id say, you could be messin things up by takin the benzos off and on?

"hot flushes and needing to rush to the loo all the time." <-- that sounds like it could be from the methadone perhaps?

i dunno. but someone correct me if im wrong. its only my guess.

but yes. id also like to know are you on MMT? or are you just getting methadone off the street and taking it whenever you can?

I have been down both paths of both drugs. When I was younger it was just meth, and trust me in was probably the strongest you can get. Look where I am from.

Anywho, those symptoms are not from the meth, you need to up your dose. Meth only gave me no energy and some really bad headaches. When I finally got clean from meth, I was doing it everyday, at least a couple of grams of glass or other damn good dope and up to a ball. I never shot it, but I think still I know a little about the drug. I really think its the methadone. You should be about ok off the meth, I cant really remember how long it took, but I wasn't using opiates taht much yet, only like vicodin or T3s. But with meth, like everyother drug, it just takes time

Time heals all wounds.

Thanks for your replies. I apprciate your interest. I've experienced opiate withdrawal many times and it's not the methadone, it's definitely the methedrine. Tho I would have said exactly what you did a couple of years ago! :) Luckily, I found what I needed to know in Renegade's excellent Amphetamines - FAQ guide on this site http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/showthread.php?t=197113. Invaluable info. Apparently 4 months is what it takes to feel better and sure enough, it's nearly that now and we are feeling better every day. I didn't realise your brain could get so used to speed that it took months to readjust. I would say it's probably okay if it's only been months but years of use and your body and brain need time to get back to normal. I did wonder if it was the benzos that were making us feel crap but one or two a day when the symptoms get bad isn't what I'd consider a habit so I didn't really feel that was the answer. Thanks again, especially to Renegade.

It's great that you're feeling better and it sounds like you have everything under control. I've never done methamphetamine but I've been a regular user of dexedrine before so I have an idea of what it feels like coming off of amphetamines. That restless/lethargic feeling goes away, it just takes longer the longer you were on it.

I just wanted to warn you about the benzos, they really can throw you off if you've been taking them daily for even just a few weeks. You say you've been taking one or two benzos but you didn't mention what dosage or what kind.

If you're taking one or two .25mg xanax a day that's not a big deal, but if you're taking one or two 2mg xanax or klonopin a day that's a huge deal, especially if you take two one day and half that the next day. Do you know if you're on a short or long acting benzo? or both? If you're getting them off the street I'd try and figure out what you're getting if you don't already know.

I just wanted to warn you, I'm sure you know already about benzos but I thought I should bring it up.

I have a friend who is relatively new to benzos who has been taking two milligrams of Klonopin every night for a few months. He ran out and didn't bother to taper or refill his prescription. He called me a few days after he had stopped saying how he felt like he was losing his mind and he couldn't coordinate simple movements or sleep or eat... basically he felt like he was going insane. He didn't make the connection that stopping the Klonopin so quickly had turned his nervous system inside out and upside down. I told him that he's probably going through benzo wd, luckily he had some xanax on hand and took it and felt normal within an hour, he also got his refill the next day. He had no idea that it was the Klonopin wd that was making him feel crazy. His doctor had never told him that he couldn't just stop after taking them daily for months.

Anyway, I don't think the benzos are your problem I just think you should keep an eye out on what you're taking so you don't end up like my friend did. Also just changing your dose so much will make you feel off by itself. Opiate withdrawal will obviously keep you running to the bathroom but benzo wd will do that as well, or at least it does with me.

Sorry for the lengthy post, didn't intend to write this much!

Peace.
