I've been on pain meds for quite sometime, my problem is I was on methadone for close to a year when suddenly things went wrong.. very wrong. I got sick and know Dr. has a answer. I know i've had adrenal issues that cropped up, and have switched to exalgo and break through hydromorphone. I just don't understand how things were just fine and suddenly out of the blue I got sick.
I'm nauseated all the time, I've lost 45lbs, I've lost interest in everything. I feel like I'm in hell and can't get out.
I guess enough of the pitty party I really would like to know if there are others that had methadone turn on them after successfully working for a time? All I seem to find are people that got sick right off the bat but no one that went to "hell in a basket" after almost a good year.
Thank you everyone in advance.

Hi there ryan, I am sorry I cannot give you an answer right away about this. I do not have experience with methadone. But I did want to welcome you and let you know there will be others checking this momentarily who should be able to give you a better answer. You certainly came to the right place to receive a large number or personal advice and opinions.

Have you been completely checked out by a doctor? That much weight loss and your nausea could be symptoms of many things---I would not assume that it is drug related though it could be. If the doctor prescribing this hasn't done a complete physical and diagnostic review, I would consider another doctor.

I don't have an answer for you as to why, but I can tell you that I've had this happen to me with several medications. Most recently, a blood-pressure medicine that I had been taking for years suddenly started making me sick and I had to switch to another one. My Dr. had no idea why.

I've been on methadone for 16 years & recently i've had to up my dose considerably if i had a choice i would rather be on a shorter acting opiate but i don't .
I'm going up another 10ml on thursday obviously you are using it as a pain med i'm on MMT so it's different but i've heard other folk describe similar symptoms as yours.

I am actually pretty much an expert on opiates and especially methadone and like brimz i have 10+ years experience with both opiate addiction and MMT...

what i can say is that there is no real reason that methadone would just stop working unless something metabolically has changed within you.. (and also assuming that you were on a stable dose)... The first thing that comes to mind to check would be your liver... people who start having liver disfunction often need to up their methadone dose to compensate.. that being said

A) what was your current methadone dose when the problem popped up?
B) how long were you at that dose?
C) what other drugs do you do?
D) do you drink? how much?

Thank brimz for the information if you don't mind me asking what did some of the mmt people due when they ran into this issue? did they change meds or just have to stop medication? I've been looking into micro dosing of Iboga but it's a little more difficult is the U.S. to obtain.
The Lastclubkid- Hi, my last liver enzyme test came back good, I was at 40mg dose with hydromorphone break through. I did take provigil but have since discontinued this since I know it can cause some issues. I was on those 3 meds for around a year in a half when I started having issues. I don't do any other drugs and I don't drink.
Thank You for any information you can give me!! :)

It's my best friend actually .

He has chronic pain but also has been on mmt doses 100ml up for fukin years 10+
In the U.K once you have been labelled as a Addict it is very hard to get sympathy as suscpision is always raised when you ask for pain meds no matter how long .
It's bullshit my mate really needs another opiodfor breakthough pain but because of his history is always denied.
He's been pissing clean tests for 4/5 years as well:|

He also is addicted to benzos like me 15 + years they hold that against us although it was them that gave them in the 1st place !!
I hope he gets sorted soon ....

Methadone eventually completely stopped working for me. I was doubling up my take home doses at one time, skipping every other day and dosing over 500mg a day. Switching to buprenorphine was like night and day.

umm opiates are garbage for chronic pain management..they made my pain much worse in the long run..i remember having chronic back pain and the went on opiates, well it made the back pain worse as well as other pain..opiatews change the way you respond to pain and i never thought id be able to get off of it due to this but the reality was, after getting clean, my pain lessened a good deal..

I agree

I agree to the pain being worse, overall my whole body hurts somedays and I long for the days of just the pain from the injury. Cutting back makes everything worse. I'm trying a taper now but this taper is just to quick so I had to slow things down. Hopefully my Dr. will work with me. My original Dr. went on a long leave so this new Dr tried cutting way to quick. I used a opiate calculator and converted everything to oxycodone. 25mg methadone 32mg hydromorphone = 167mg oxycodone. Mr Dr cut me back or tried to cut me back to oxycotin 30mg and 6 hydromorphone = 70mg oxycodone. Needless to say pain came back with wicked withdrawls. I was lucky to have some hydromorphone left and called today telling them I went back to the hydromorphones if I didn't have extra's of those I would of been screwed. I hope they don't have a fit but since my original pain dr. left I have had a hell of time. I pray to God for anyone that has gone through the health issues and pain problems and wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.
