Hard hash

So I bought this hash

it's rock hard, crumbles when you put flame to it

what bothers me is how hard it is, like if it was mixed with some kind of plastic agent

you hit it with knife it goes

Is it dry? If it is you could have picked up some stale hash. It still works and all, it just tastes foul and won't get you as high. I've had some rock hard stuff before but I didn't like it much.
 
The last batch of hash i made came out rock hard. It was like a small sandy colored pebble. When you would add heat and crumble it would easily break into chunks and the keif texture would be visible. I dont think there is anything inherently wrong with hard hash the stuff I had was pretty top notch.
 
Any high quality hash should soften in the heat of your palm. If it needs a torch taken to it to break up it's sub-par.

Really Yerg? I ground up about an ounce of decent weed and took all the keif and put it in parchment paper. The parchment was placed in a wet paper towel and put in the oven at 300 farenheight. I took it out every so often and applied alot of pressure. after around a hour of this process I let it cool
unwrapped it, balled it up and put in a bag and sealed it SUPER tightly. The next day I opened it and the hash was hard as a rock but would crumble then melt and burn very nicely with heat. Was also very potent. So why do you think hardness is a good indicator of quality?
 
Because fresh resin should be rich with oils, and soft and pliable when heat is applied. Like you say, your hash crumbled and melted very easily. I'm talking about hash that doesn't soften in your hand at all and needs a lighter to break up. It's either stale, or adulterated. There's nothing wrong with hash that's rock hard on a table, but it shouldn't stay rock hard if you're carrying it around in your pocket. Softness definitely isn't a reliable indicator of quality either, there's a lot of adulterated squidgy black around.
 
lol yeah ^ agree with this...although the Afghan Black I get right now is quite good, it lights on the 2nd or 3rd time (a match head size piece), however it doesn't burn very white...
But it is definitely not gold seal which I've had before (I want it again!)...still quite potent though, and tastes beautiful.
This stuff is quite hard if it's in your jacket pocket, but as soon as you start rolling a stick of it for your jay, just keep it in your palm for like 10 seconds or so and it's malleable as fuck!

Sounds like it could be stale my friend...if it really does just need a lil heat to soften it...I always say as long as it doesn't smoke when you heat it and crumbles easily, it's worth smoking.
I've had some nice "Dunya" from the Rif Mountains, which was really quite hard and brittle and flaked more than crumbled when you used your fingernail - but had a beautiful sativa high that I've not had from any other kind of hash since I first had kief (npt had all these mental hashes they have these days yet).
 
Around where I live these "soap bars" are about the only kind of hash you can get, and it usually means it's adulterated with shit you usually don't want to smoke. We smoke it anyway.
 
I doubt someone would mixed plastic with hash, waste of hash. And its very unlikly

We don't all live in Canada man, there's a lot of people in Europe who know no better and we just don't have the same kind of domestic production as you guys. I've seen visible scraps of plastic bag in hash many times in my younger days. Waste of hash? Totally. Unlikely? Afraid not.

Soap bar is always adulterated. Don't let them get away with it man! If we destroy the demand for soapbar the supply will disappear. You deserve better than that shit, boycott soap!

I've had some hash that is hard, but what i do when i pack bowl or to get a chunk, light it up a bit, and it bubbles and gets softer in the area where i burned it for a bit, and then it's soft and ready to smoke, but like yerg said, i've had some AA grade shit that starts to get soft in your hand. all hail hashish.
 
in nyc the fake dealers sell this stone as hash
its rock hard
looks like hash a lil bit
smells when you heat it up
but its some herb or mineral or some shit your supposed to rub on your dick to stay hard longer

last i heard about that bunk stuff
was some poor fool ate a chunk and died

Ive had hash that was hard and great. I've hash that was soft and great. The only way to tell the quality really is to smoke it. If youve had bubble hash or other high quality hash's youll know whether its good or bad. There is just so many ways to produce hash and then even variations of those ways. Neat stuff. I enjoy reading about different regions of the worlds methods.

So why dont you tell us how it smokes?
 
yeah the thing is...

this hash has a waxy look to it

the smell and taste... is not very appealing
