Happy Hardcore Still Not Taking Off In The States Like It Has In Australia n' UK!

i ask this thread be closed on the grounds that people are not providing any constructive discussion, rather just beating a long dead horse.
seriously we have enough of these ridiculous threads. please close it.

i dont think it is too much to ask for people to say "i think hardcore is shit" as oppose to "hardcore is shit"
but evidently it is.
/me reminds myself not to bother coming in the BL music forum again

Well... what the hell, I'm going to offer an actual reason for not liking the music I like.
Here goes!
At least hardcore didn't play itself out so bad that in order to keep sales of a gigantic series of shitty cd's going, producers were forced to add extra percussion to the same music in order to call it "house" instead of "trance".
No, instead hardcore has been one of the most consistantly evolving genres in electronic music, splintering into a million different things that all sound unique in their own way. Period.
So there ya go, trance has become more trance, which became more trance, which became trance with house percussion. (And you will *never* convince me that progressive house is anything but trance with different percussion. *never*)
Hardcore became darkcore, happycore, jungle, bouncy techno, freeform, nrg/hh, 2step.
You can all slag on hardcore all you fucking want, but you have your heads in your asses if you think that it's not creative, complex, evolving music.

Well, accepting that music appreciation is subjective, It's arrogant to assume that one kind of music is shit just because you think it is--
Isn't that the definition of subjectivity? If you think it's shit, it is shit to you.

you're equating your opinion with the general opinion of humankind, and implying that, in your mind, you equate yourself with God.

Huh? You lost me there... Why does expressing your personal subjective opinion mean that you're implying that you speak for all of humankind? I'm not sure I understand...

What's the difference? Of course it's what they think, they wouldn't be saying it if it weren't. When journalists review an album, they don't qualify every statement with "I think that..." or "In my humble opinion...". Why? Because it's perfectly obvious that it's their opinion and that it's subjective, as is any statement regarding the merit of a piece (or genre in this case) of music.
:)

I like hardcore, but happy hardcore is a different matter.

Why the hell do I have to add IMO all the time? Everything I say is merely my opinion, how can it be otherwise?
Because IMO Americans learn their opinions in text books rather than by using all that gray matter between their ears.
Oh and IMO happy hardcore is awfull, it's totaly safe happy music that will never shock or suprise. They (hhc fans) like it because they can guess how the song will be mins. in advance and don't have to work hard at getting inside the music.
I suspect they are similar to pop fans, prefering their happines pre packaged and to come with a return to base warenty.

Someone say hardcore?
Oh wait I best not say that someone will think im talking hardcore punk or hardcore rap or hardcore pop or whatever.

/me hangs head in shame

You say it hasn't picked up in the USA.
Well, niether has deep fried locust as a delicacy.
There is a reason, people. There IS a reason.

This being the internet, the addition of those classic three letters, IMO, clears up the distinction. But, being a psych major, I really think a few of you need help-- or to grow up.

Not to be argumentative, but all you just did was restate your previous post :) Again, like Blagsta said, it seems kinda redundant to state that something is your opinion if it can't really be construed as anything else. You said again that there is a big difference between the two ("this genre is shit" and "i think this genre is shit"), but I'm still not sure WHY you think so, which was basically my original question.

Happy hardcore originated in Holland. Where at first there were very dark gabberhouse parties. It was becoming too agressive and dangerous to come to these parties, girls were staying away and on the floor it was becoming a battlezone with football hooligans fighting and people dropping by dozens on a overdose. To change that the music was becomming softer and dj's stept out of the gabberscene to become commercial with what became happy hardcore. It didn't become anything here in Holland and it became softer and softer to be accepted in abroad. The music you listen to in the uk and us is very soft hhc and not the original happy core.

I consider HHC to be the Weird Al of dance music. It's not suppose to be taken seriously, but it's fun to listen to.

Never heard that before. AFAIK, it came out of early 90's hardcore, took the stupid samples, piano breaks and helium vocals, stuck a kick drum under the breaks (why?) and removed all the ragga/hip hop/reggae elements.

I think you are about 4 years to late, hhc hit its peek in the uk in 1998.
