Guns/Weapons Discussion

it's easy to say there's no need for a gun except violence and to kill, but if you have ever had somebody pull a gun on you, im pretty sure you'd wish you had one too.

Sure you'd wish you had one, but if it's not already pointing at them it's useless. The reason being as soon as you begin to raise your weapon they're gonna pop you! :\

^ Maybe in the event someone already has a gun out ann ready (you shouldn't let a situation escalate to that point in the first place), but there are plenty of other situations in which a firearm can protect you from imminent bodily harm.

Guns are a lot of fun. I love to go to a range a few times a year and target shoot. I also like deer hunting. I only own a couple 12 gauge shotguns, but I eventually want to buy a few pistols, a .22 rifle and a bigger rifle.

I don't need to use a gun for protection where I live. I only use guns for sport.

I own three guns for the purpose of protection, but I go to the range quite often to either polish up my shooting skills or get out of the house.

My most recent addition is a AR-10A2 rifle, but I also own an automatic .45 caliber Glock and a semi-auto 9mm Model26 Glock.

I like guns but don't own any as I cant afford them. I'd like to have a small collection though some day.

I enjoy the idea of being competent, of being a good shot, and of being prepared for anything that might come myway.

In general I like weapons, guns appeal to me but not nearly as much as knives, daggers, and swords. I also like bows and arrows and crossbows.

I also find it a huge turn on when a man has weapons.

I have no desire to shoot anyone, I just like the idea of power and danger. It's sexy to me.

But the whole idea of having a gun is completely unnecessary. The cons weigh out the pros by far. You're more likely to use mace that's always on you rather than a gun in a break-in, according to common sense and the 2% figures.

I absolutely hate guns - I'm also an aussie and have absolutely no reason to possess one.

I think it's cool if people want to go to a shooting range - that's a hobby. I can see that it may also be neccissary in some countries to have a good aim... for self-protection!

Not for me though thanks! :D

It's unnecessary if you have never needed, or will never need a gun to protect your well being or your life, other than in the ordinary home invasion.

guns are specifically designed for one purpose.

guns kill tens of thousands of americans every year.

if you're happy for that to continue - and i have come to the conclusion that most are - then by all means bleat about constitutional irrelevances.

but don't come crying to us when yet more children get their brains splattered across shiny classroom floors. it's your own fucking fault; people have tried and tried to talk sensibly about this issue but get shouted down by 'i am a militia capable of defeating our enemy the Federalist government' whackjobs.

the rest of us just sit here waiting for the pictures of more dead kids.

10 children killed every day; 40 wounded.

you're killing the next generation... but don't expect any fucking sympathy from us. .

sleep well.

Yeah it's simple, "keep out of reach of children", just like how it warns on boxes of matches.

Also FYI, guns arnt only designed for one purpose. There are several; combat, hunting, sports.

But the numbers point to 2% of people using guns.

Why not use mace?

There are several; combat, hunting, sports.

First two are killing. ;) So only two purposes.

once you mace the person, what are you going to do then?

mace temporarily slows somebody down, hell, some people can fight through mace.

a bullet stops a person, it may not kill them, but I guarantee they'll think twice about robbing you.

I don't like assault guns, ie. any guns created to kill people. That goes for handguns, assault rifles, etc. I do however own one shotgun (4-10) and one rifle (30.06). I hunt with my family occasionally, so I use them for that.

But the way I see it, if someone with a gun wants to rob me, I'm gonna let them. I'm more likely to get shot reaching for that gun than I am if I just give them my wallet. Just how I am I guess, a product of the suburbs.

Have a .22 automatic "saturday night special" with hollowpoint bullets besides my bed accompanied by a .357 revolver with HPB. I live in a bad neighborhood and these equalize the situation.

Several times while living here I've instinctively jumped out of bed and grabbed the big gun when I hear women scream nearby.

I don't like living here but the handguns make me feel safer.

One time, before I put up a 5 foot fence there was a negro in my yard. I grabbed the big gun calm as can be and called 911. The dispatcher asked if I was armed and asked what size it was. I think the cops appreciated that I can protect myself.

"No reason"!? What, is Australia free from rape and robbery? Can you leave your door/windows open without fear like it used to be in America in the 1950s?

I've been thinking of leaving the U$A for Australia.

Is there NO fear of crime in Australia? (Rembember to compare crime rates in Aus and USA.)

.22LR with a 3x scope, 12 gauge shooting 3" shells and a .270 with a 3x9 scope shooting 150gr bullets.

none loaded, but can be loaded quickly

it is a sense of power. knowing i can send a deadly projectile hundreds of yards with pinpoint accuracy is a good feeling. i am more aptly suited to survive and secure my family. it is my duty as a man to secure my family, i honestly dont see how any man could not want to protect his family. i hunt a lot. this puts food on the table, also providing for a family. i would rather teach my kids about guns than let the media teach them.

having a great deal of knowledge of guns and how they work makes me respect them even more. knowing their power means that ill use guns with the utmost safety.

is that the typical american response to guns you brits love so much?

I'm not a gun freak but I was pretty interested in firearms 1-2 years back, I use to research different guns and took up playing airsoft (1:1 scale models of real weapons that shoot plastic BB's, kinda like paintball).

I'm don't really support the manufacture of more guns, but I believe it is a necessary evil.
