Do they desperately want to associate with children or do they not want to be told that they can't associate with children?
If somebody told me it was inappropriate for me to read books to kids, I would passionately object... doesn't make me a kiddy fiddler.
Yeah. To me, a drag queen reading fairy tales to a kids is no different than a clown or superhero reading fairy tales to kids... entirely a non-issue and the only reason I care about it one way or the other is because the right has concocted a false narrative from it that they're using to attack LGBT people physically, socially, and via abuse of the law.
Like the overwhelming majority of these, so far as I'm concerned it's 100% a civil rights issue and nothing else. Anything less than full equal rights and access under the law to all civic, commercial, and social services that straight people have is acceptable. That includes putting on a costume and reading fairy tales to kids. I've zero desire to do so. But I also have zero desire to get a marriage license in Kentucky, buy a cake for that wedding in Colorado, or adopt a child in Pennsylvania. But tell me that I don't have the right to do any of those? Deny me and mine any right or access that is afford to cisgender hetros? Treat us as unequal under the law in any way? Even if it's something I normally DGAF about, that is intolerable and a cue to go to the mattresses against those people and institutions. Basically, civil rights ARE the proverbial "hill to die on."
And let's not delude ourselves into believing that they'll stop at "don't say gay," banning trans health care, or eliminating drag events. Those are just the foot in the door... wedge issues with which they intend to set precedent so they can continue to attack us more viciously later on. In fact, they've even (inadvertently) admitted it! Remember a last year when trump's SCOTUS decided that the US should be a real life Republic of Gilead? They screwed up their own narrative, miscoordinated their statements, and let slip that after Roe, Obergefell and Lawrence are next on their chopping block.
