When I was taking Adderall over the spring semester, I was taking 30 - 60 mg. of DXM, and 500 to 1000 milligrams of magnesium, every night for several weeks. The problem is I actually had reverse tolerance effects in which my usual dose of Adderall caused much more negative side effects: I felt paranoid, socially anxious, jittery, agitated, restless, and in general, like a fidgety, nervous wreck.
Anyway, I haven't disclosed anything about DXM to my psychiatrist, mostly for fear that the tolerance prevention would be interpreted as abuse, but she kind of brushed off me asking for a benzodiazepine, and prescribed buspirone, switched my XR stimulant to Vyvanese, but we decided to remain on 10 mg. Adderall IR for an "as-needed" basis.
She was wrong about Vyvanese being covered by insurance, the pharmacy wanted to charge $200 that I didn't have, so I was only able to get the Adderall IR filled. I haven't filled buspirone yet because I only have $10 left in my checking account, so I'll have to wait until next Wednesday the week after (July 3rd) for my paycheck.
I guess if I can't get insurance to cover Vyvanese, then I'll have to call her within a week to switch to another XR stimulant. Anyway, should I tell her about using DXM for Adderall tolerance just to let her know that it wasn't because of Adderall XR itself? She's not really getting the full picture otherwise, and I guess I'd like to be back on Adderall XR for sameness, and even so, she's better informed that my anxiety was probably dose-dependent when we're going through the trial-and-error of finding the right XR stimulant.
Also, I'm wondering how much and how often should I take DXM and magnesium to avoid the reversal of tolerance so that the same dose doesn't have the exaggerated negative side effects?
