At the min iv got a small carbaord box with tin foil all inside of it, it has a hole in the top where a bulb is that is 70 watt infra red bulb in it (which is used for lizards)

Will this be fine and help the plant grow faster?

Thanks for any replys.

Those bulbs put off quite an ammount of heat (which is what they are used for),
You would be better going off to wal-mart, homedepot , or something, and buying some CFL bulbs, you know, the little, energy saving bulbs, spirals.
Anywho, get the the bright bulbs for vegging, and get soft white bulbs for flowering, (DO NOT use Incandescent bulbs)

Also, you'll probably want about 75-150 watts per plant.
Hope you have a way of cooling the box, as they can get hot quickly if its just an enclosed box.

you want a metal halide bulb for vegging and a high pressure sodium for flower you can just use sodium but so will argue halide is better for veg,, the halide is 6400k [blue] and the sodium is 2700k [red] if using cfl's try get the same kelvins as the halide for veg and sodium for flowering as it makes a lot of difference vegging under red spectrum cfls and flowering under blue spectrum.
peace

also get a spare hps bulb, you don't want a bulb to burn out and not have access to another. messing with the lights can mess up the plants....hermies etc

I dont think a 400w MH or HPS would be ideal for his set-up, he is using a small cardboard box!! I would either use the CFL's are just get a flourescent fixture that holds 2 40Watt strip bulbs, you can find them in 2ft or 4ft lengths. These give off hardly any heat and if the seedlings or clones (whichever you have) touch the bulbs, they will not burn them.

Do you plan on using this "small cardboard box" for the entire cycle or just to start them off in? I really hope your not planning on using this cardboard box for the entire cycle, I think your gonna run into problems if you do. Kinda hard to give suggestions without really knowing what your set up looks like.

Haha thanks muncheez, thats pretty much why I said CFLs to begin , cause he's growing in a cardboard box, lol....

I dont think anyone will be able to use a 400-600 watt HPS in a cardboard box (haha, I can see it now, 8inch Inline extraction and intake fan with carbon filter, yesir)

you can grow suprisingly well with CFLs, I mean, considering they are just regular bulbs and all, makes it much less expensive aswell

ha dunno what i thought,, thought he ment the box was a diy reflector,,, but if thats the case go with cfl's or florescent tubes

Well, he's probably growing in a cardboard box to make sure nobody sees it, (so thats my guess), I would assume growing outside would defeat the purpose of having it in the cardboard box..

You're going to want to have about 150-200 watts if it's just one plant your growing, though, you can get more if you want( I know they have 400 watt CFLs that require a mogul base),

Don't know if you've already got everything figured out, but your going to need to have to ventilation in that box. I tried making one of these 2 days ago, as I was going to place my clones in there, I had four 23 watt bulbs (bright white), and the box was just incredibly hot after turning the lights on for five min, (though I didnt have ventilation, or anything)

Bright white for vegging, soft white for flowering ,
