Is it true that you can plant regular opium poppies and grow opium? If not where can you get seeds? Thanks

Are you insinuating that you can bury an opium poppy in the ground and an "opium" will sprout out of the hole?
If you are asking if opium can be extracted from opium poppies, the answer is yes. Hence their name. The accepted method is to make poppy tea however, because extracting a worthwhile amount of opium from poppies isn't really feasible.
You can get seeds at any store that sells seeds. An intelligent person can find seeds online by typing opium poppy seeds into their favorite search engine.

I dont know why so many people believe this. A good pod can yield 100mg of opium. A very small garden of poppies can yield a decent amount of opium. True, there wouldn't be a huge money value on it but it's great for personaal stash.
You dont really know much about this do you? I only point that out cause you are wrong and you're pretty rude. Dried pods cant be milked for opium. They do contain a fair amount of alkaloids and a simple hot wtaer extraction pulls them out. Pods that are alive can be milked for opium and later they can be dried used for tea. Why would you not extract opium from your pods? Pods used in tea is only so popular because dries pods are so readily available

I don't believe my post to be rude. Expecting people to posts questions that can be read easily isn't unfair.
As far as the difficulty of the extraction goes, someone who doesn't even know where to buy opium seeds is not up for it. The actual process of milking the pods isn't rocket science, but do it at the correct time is not an easy thing.
This, along with other minor issues such as concentration problems due to overwatering before harvest, cutting into the seeds, etc make the process less desirable. For the personal use of a knowledable and devoted person it is one thing, but for commercial use or to get fux0red up its not really viable, at least in this case.
I'd still submit that the person above, along with the great majority of the people here are best served by simply ordering the pods, instead of attemtping the growing/milking process.

Please tell me he hasn't got it wrong, because his poppy seeds have been planted now.

Yeah some people on this board have serious problems when it comes to tearing an honest post apart and being rude. Anyways, you can just buy regular poppy seeds at the grocery store and some of them will definitely sprout. Or you can get some dried poppies at a florist and open up the seed pods. The hardest part is safely disposing of the poppies after you cut them open because they are CII.
my friends have a little garden growing in their closet. it's their first time growing and things seems to be going quite well with minimal effort, really. also with the help of a nice grow light. though i don't know anything about how much it will yield. so long as it's enough for them (and maybe me

Growing poppies is not at all difficult. The thing is that they grow best from seeds, not from dividing existing plants in order to propogate new growth. My grandmother has had a patch of Papaver Somniferum growing in her backyard for nearly as long as she has lived there... which is about 42 years. They need basically no care, very little weeding, and watering only when nature doesn't provide enough. There are probably in the neighborhood of 30-40 induvidual plants growing... coexisting with the myrtle that also grows in the same patch in her garden.
i don't know if that helps much at all... but growing the stuff is really simple.

what i have been told, is that poppies can be grown to maturity in about three weeks, at which point the flowers fall off, & you let the plants do their thing for about another week. if you slice opent he pod a white milky liquid will umm, i guess oooze out, & turn dark after a bit...here is your opium....

what do you mean its not the one mom bakes into bread? somniferum is also known as breadseed poppy.
anyway, yeah, its possible. incisions on the side of the unripe pod, theres guides at the standard places, erowid, ect... its not rokit science. its growing a relatively easy to care for plant, and cutting it.

Yes we are talking about the one's mom bakes into bread. You can buy a jar of poppy seeds in the spice section and some of them will definitely sprout. But you can try the florist for dried flowered poppies that have seeds in them or search the internet for packs of seeds.
