growing & light arrays

I have 2 plants. One shows few red hairs, not as notorious as those in the female plant pic. The other seems to show the balls, damn. anyway, both plants next to each other and im pretty growing illiterate(my first try). I dont want the male to harm the female(if its possible).

It takes at least 3 weeks for the male to "hurt" the female.

By that time it will be very obvious.

Just make sure you don't end up with a hermi and think that the hairs mean it's pure female. Hermis have both balls AND hairs. They'll even impregnate themselves..

hey lurkguy, i thought THIS was my research.
Anyways, now that hermis came up to the discussion, im kinda worried this might be the situation ...jejeje.

i got 2 75W bulbs for two plants in my dorm..

will that produce any bud?

imma try and grow a plant with just a 35watt hps bulb. Ill get back to you on how that goes(wont be for a few more weeks)

to all you haters and idiots saying my incandescent didn't work and what not:

guess who has an awesome plant now thanks to an incandescent bulb and only added a 45W flur. in 3 weeks later. works FINE for 1 or 2 plants. don't go wasting your money. :p

no man, you're right about the tropics. in florida i threw some seeds into the grey sand, just turned up by a bulldozer, and soon i had triplet females all growing right next to each other like pretty maids in a row. they became very potent but skinny.

but as far as your plants are concerned, if you already see red hairds and buds on your female and the male has been growing near her the whole time or even half the time, she will seed and you will have no sensi. my advice is chop him down immediately and feed him to your dog.

Wasting your money? Buying proper equipment isn't wasting money, it's getting the most out of your invested time. People with good lights aren't wasting money, you are wasting a cannabis seed and are also wasting time and effort.

I bet your plant is a spindly ass motherfucker, incandesants mostly focus on the red end of the spectrum with next to none for blue, I bet the stalk has the same amount of girth as my penis.

Here is a diagram illustrating the difference between sunlight that a plant would naturally grow under and an incadesant bulb - you do the math. HPS bulbs can be a bit lacking in the blue spectrum and may lead to a bit of a tall plant during vegetation but are brilliant for flowering. You can of course get enhanced HPS lamps which incorporate more blue.

HPS lamps are good for plants that are budding, and MH are good for plants that are vegging. These lights come in many different wattage, but I'm using a 400w HPS light. The bulbs themselves are easy to get, I was able to steal mine from Home Depot. The ballasts, however, will cost you a lot more, and unless you like doing buisness over the internet, may be hard to find. I was able to find a few hydroponic supply stores in my city.
Of course, either light by it self, or even a combination of the 2 will produce a good crop, but a general rule of thumb is that young, vegging plants prefer light in the blue part of the spectrum, somthing like ~450 on those charts up there ^. A budding plants prefers red light, ~675. I agree with Thujone that CFLs are the way to go with a small crop. My plants were growing under CFLs for the first 2 weeks, but I switched em to HPS when they got a little bigger. You definately CAN use CFLs to grow a great crop, but I used the HPS cause I had it available.
You have to wait until the plant flowers before you know the sex, I dunno who told you to look at the sprout, but their wrong.
