NEMD Grateful Dead Appreciation Thread

I have an announcement to make that some Deadheads are not aware of! may have been mentioned already but if you go to any Dead show on archive.org that is "stream only" all you gotta do is delete 'details' in the link and replace it with 'download'... then you can, well, download em just as we used to be able to do!

Greatest band of all time, greatest band there ever will be.

we try to keep this and other methods of grabbing the stream only shows quiet, so they don't eventually catch on and do something to prevent it.

hmm. good lookin out...but it is definitely worth the mention...and..about the catching on, well, that's so highly unlikely that that will ever happen. the Dead don't have a police squad monitoring bluelight. you make a fair point, but theres not really a lowkey way to let Deadheads you dont know in on something this extraordinary. think about it.

I never understood how anyone can prefer the 71-74(although '74 has some sick versions once they start playing the intro the way it should be...think 6/28/74 was the last one with the slow LLR type intro) Jack Straws to the '77-81 and '91 versions...

I am a Jack Straw freak...I think i've heard them all, at least twice:D

1977

5/21/77
6/7/77
11/6/77

1978

4/16/78
5/7/78 (weird!)
11/21/78

1979

1/7/79
2/10/79
5/13/79!!(Jerry play so fucking fast, yet it seems the song moves in slow-mo)

1980

1/13/80
4/29/80
5/12/80

1981

3/12/81 (weird, shady)
8/16/81
10/4/81

1991

4/7/91
6/6/91
9/4/91

Listen to any one of them and tell me that '72 Jackie is the best ever:p:D

---------------------------

On a different note I can't stop listening to the So Many Roads from 10/1/94...sends shivers down my spine, i'm going to cry from listening to it one of these times...it's on youtube, check'er out!

12-19-73 Stella Blue can make even the most manliest man cry like a little girl. This version packs a punch! I love this whole show-so much emotion.

I have to toss out my faves....Dick's Pick 1 is great. 5/8/77 is classic too. Hundred Year Hall is killer too--a good intro to live Dead. They kill it on Big River. I used to hate the Dead, but after giving Hundred Year Hall a try, I was hooked.

I had to get over the whole hippy dippy dumbasss vibe (not to bag on any heads lol) that went around them to get to the heart of some truly great music. It's hard to like something when everyone is pushing it at you a lal "Oh man, the Dead are groovy..the fire, bro. Check out thes gnarly boot I have...Darkstar 30 minutes oh man!!!

To me they represent a culmination and chronicle of the American Song, and the art of early american songwriting

I have been a fan for years. I saw the grateful dead about 20 times and have seen ratdog, the dead, and the other ones several times. Its sad that the gratefuld dead no longer exist. I am more of a fan of their music and not the scene. Some of the best songs are Eyes of the world, China cat sunflower>I know you rider, and of course Scarlet Begonias>Fire on the mountain. It depends on what year you are listening to the grateful dead. In my opinion they were at their peak with Brent Mydland. Jerrys guitar playing made that band!!! Bob weirs singing made that band as well. I love seeing ratdog (bob weirs band) whenever they come through vegas. Its always a great show, 2 sets, and they jam hard for only 40 dollar tickets. Hell I went to depeche mode last night, 200 dollar tickets!!! ridiculous!!! The grateful dead is known for their live performances. Absolutely loved every minute of them.

wow, i can't believe i never figured out how to do this:

how do you get the correct artist / song names for itunes after you change the flac files over to .wav or aiff?

i've always just kept them with the "gd71-12-05d1t01.wav" track name, and highlighted them all and change artist to 'grateful dead' (or whatever band), but i know you can use some program to correctly label them.
