Stella Blue

All the years combine, they melt into a dream,
A broken angel sings from a guitar.
In the end there's just a song comes cryin up the night
Thru all the broken dreams and vanished years.
Stella blue. stella blue.

When all the cards are down, there's nothing left to see,
There's just the pavement left and broken dreams.

In the end there's still that song comes cryin like the wind.
Down every lonely street that's ever been
Stella blue. stella blue.

Ive stayed in every blue-light cheap hotel, can't win for trying.
Dust off those rusty strings just one more time,
Gonna make them shine, shine

It all rolls into one and nothing comes for free,
There's nothing you can hold, for very long.
And when you hear that song come crying like the wind,
It seems like all this life was just a dream.
Stella blue. stella blue.

Jerry has always been like a pied piper to me.

also if you're in that kinda place where you close your eyes and see crystal palaces burst into fractals of jewels and then melt into cloud landscapes, then i recommend 2-14-68

dark star, china cat, and the eleven especially are totally pure and a lot of fun. the young dead at the height of their early creative exuberance.

all deadheads should try to get their hands on the winterland 1973 complete recordings. it is superb. the dankest, stankest, jazziest dead you can find.

So.....

Im 17. I have always loved The Dead and bands alike. I basically grew up listening to this music. Its not a culture Ive immersed myself in, I have really only been to a String Cheese concert.

So since I will be on my own next year, and I want to explore a lot of jam shows and festivals. Does anyone have some advice for me? I know that is so vague, but it is honestly a very intimidating thing for me to experience, but at String Cheese it was so much fun just feeling the family like atmosphere. Is the same fun and excitement still alive at these shows?

Brown-Eyed Woman 5/8/77

Probably my favorite Dead song right now.
Listening to 9/20/74 - Palais des Sports, Paris as I surf BL this afternoon..

This summer at a festival this old Deadhead was telling a story that related to the lyric, "The bottle was dusty but the liquor was clean..."
Basically, there was a little cold spring near his house, and he found a bottle of whiskey in the spring that he'd stashed there like 15 years before (forgetting that he'd dosed it way back when)--and it smelled clean so he sipped some, only to remember an hour later what else was in the bottle...

There is a little bit on posts 782-784 on this thread.. I love string cheese and was saying just last night that I would rather see SC then Rat Dog at this point anytime.. I would check out widespread panic, DarK Star orchestra, Moe, leftover salmon, Hard Working Americans, Phish, Yonder Mountain String Band, and ofcourse furthur and Rat Dog to name a few..

Grateful Dead Live at Palais Des Sports on 1974-09-20 (September 20, 1974)

Also, my favorite Brown-Eyed Woman that I've discovered is the BEW -> Passenger from Seattle Colosseum 7/1/79.

If you've got any other great ones I'm always looking for new sets to listen to.
