NEMD Grateful Dead Appreciation Thread

I'm seeing Bob Weir play with Bob Dylan, Wilco, and My Morning Jacket on Sunday.
Hellz yes. %)

they've been doing some cool covers with bobby.

wilco playing dark star with him and MMJ playing i know you rider with him.

that said, bobby is off that tour now, and on tour with further. sorry.

i thought this would be the best thread to post this in.
i am currently compiling a journal of dead tour gdf and show and set lists and just views on the 1967-1990's
have done as much research i can over the years and i am now at a stage where i feel i could start asking person to person questions.

Grateful Dead Last W3 Can Run 7.10.90

We dont own this place, though we act as if we did,
Its a loan from the children of our childrens kids.
The actual owners havent even been born yet.

Bur we never tend the garden and rarely we pay the rent,
Some of it is broken and the rest of it is bent
Put it all on plastic and I wonder where well be when the bills hit.

We can run,
But we cant hide from it.
Of all possible worlds,
We only got one:
We gotta ride on it.
Whatever weve done,
Well never get far from what we leave behind,
Baby, we can run, run, run, but we cant hide.
Oh no, we cant hide.

Im dumpin my trash in your back yard
Makin certain you dont notice really isnt so hard
Youre so busy with your guns and all of your excuses to use them.

Well, its oil for the rich and babies for the poor,
We got everyone believin that more is more,
If a reckoning comes, maybe we will know what to do then.

All these complications seem to leave no choice,
I heard the tongues of billion speak with just one voice,
Saying, just leave all the rest to me,
I need it worse than you, you see.
And then I heard....
The sound of one child crying.

Today I went walking in the amber wind,
Theres a hole in the sky where the light pours in
I remembered the days when I wasnt afraid of the sunshine.

But now it beats down on the asphalt land
Like a hammering blow from gods left hand
What little still grows cringes in the shade like a bad vine.

long live pigpen!

early dead early dead early dead... i'll forever say that my favorite sound was everything from 66-69, especially the '67 versions of Viola Lee.. such bluesy goodness

edit: if you can find the Viole Lee Rehearsals from 01/66.. treasure it! look around on bt.etree for it

I also enjoy very early dead from the mid/late 60s, early 70s, <3 Pigpen, and I like some of their music from the mid/late 70s and very early 80s. I don't like Vince or the stuff from the 90s though.

R.I.P. JJ Cale.

i'll be seeing bobby solo on sunday @ kinda lame peach fest, 15 miles from my house

kind of want to see him play with 'ratdog' minus Kenny/mk, with kimock on Friday and Saturday night

but between too much golf and plans of fall hookahville, I just can't do it

6/1, 6/6, 6/7, 6/9/ 6/14,6/16,6/17, 6/22, 6/24 and 6/25/91 are all prize money

a top 3 tour for me for sure, love vinny/bruce and the relentless midi assault

6/14/91 was one of the shows that got me hooked in during my baby steps, couldn't believe how good the show sounded and how much how it stills stands today as my most mesmerizing first set

it was an official dvd release:

nothing like seeing that baby grand up on the stage when you strolled into the venue<3.. that said vinny can mostly eat a sheet cause he almost always needed it.. but if i was ever caught in an elevator I would like nothing more than to hear his music:\

the times of vince welnick post-jerry until his own death is one of the saddest stories I've ever heard in the music industry

he slip his throat in his own back yard, as his wife watched from the kitchen window

the best was in blaire Jackson's 'garcia', there was a quote from vince talking about john kahn and jerry doing heroin
' I wanted to take matters in my own hand and beat the shit out of john kahn'

vince was a junkie, if what I've read is correct

I really liked vince's playing and his backing vocals, his singing can be of funny bad at times, but funny bad is good
love his vocals on foolish heart

didn't realize that he had such a story post jerry death.. where else can i read about this.. wait i think i read garcia.. shit i must have been all blown out when i read that..

As far as his playing.. sorry but i get allot more flow and enjoyment from the more traditional blues orientated play of pig and brent.. just had allot more energy and heart IMO. and unfortunately my live experiences with the dead were all vinny (and if i was lucky bruce)
