Got given a leaflet on plugging - says never insert further in than 1cm?

Okay, so today a lovely bloke at the needle exchange gave me a little booklet on the UYB ('up your bum') method of drug-taking, as an alternative to IV/IM.

It's full of useful tips that I'd never heard before, including one which says that one should 'push the barrel in one centimeter. No further or the drug won't come on fast'.

Now, this isn't what I had heard online. Most people seem to push the syringe right up there, presumably because it's not really any extra discomfort and it adds an element of security of the liquid not coming back out.

Anyone else heard this CM rule?

I think most people only go 3cms max. Likely because of the security of knowing it wont leak out but it only has to be just inside the rectum to make contact with the membranes and absorb. Of much more importantance is voiding your bowel beforehand and using the correct amount of liquid to dissolve the substance being taken.
