Gordon Ramsay Pwns You (and your mum)

i have a lot of time for him. the tv shows are, generally speaking, a load of contrived nonsense but they make pretty entertaining tv.

i like the uk version of 'kitchen nightmares' best.

Here in Australia, we've only started receiving the magic of Ramsay. We get like a mixed bag of the US/UK Kitchen Nightmares plus one of the later seasons of Hells Kitchen (which is on tonight: 8:30 channel 9 if you're in Aus.) :)

I wouldn't mind checking out his other shows like Boiling Point/Beyond Boiling Point and The F-word. Some of it is bloody nonsense, but oh-so-entertaining as well.

I hope they don't start censoring him...it was so funny hearing him call someone, and I quote, a "fucking French cunt" on national free-to-air TV.

You wouldn't be the first and I doubt you'd be the last. I'm sure many people have attempted physical violence on him--hell, did you watch those first two videos I posted? If I had a boss like that I'd go insane.

That's what makes it such compelling television. Screw big brother, who needs a big elaborate set-up to push everyday people over the edge when you have Gordon Ramsay?

he swears heaps, but really, so what.

from the few shows i've seen, i have a sneaking suspicion that those situations are set up. still slightly entertaining.

i <3 ramsey
id work in his kitchen

he has an interesting hard luck childhood story to go along with his gall and mouth.
uk nightmares are better and i would love to have the f word around on tv here.
this season of hell's is the most annoying yet. i want to shoot every cook on there.
i would totally do ramsey, though ;)

Interesting fact: His brother is a heroin addict. I think he is or was on trial in Indonesia for possessing heroin.

I read in the papers that the US version of one of his shows was mostly staged with very fancy and false editing to make it look like things were happening which weren't.

But I do like watching him, he's very entertaining and I love it when he has a go at someone :D

I didn't really care much for the episode of Hell's Kitchen I saw. Just seemed...dumb. I much prefer Top Chef as far as competitive kitchen shows go.

I do love a bit of Ramsay. That said, he reminds me why I didn't become a chef. And I honestly think he picks the spazzs for hell's kitchen, just so he can be the big man all the time and scream at others, rather than the talented chefs who applied with the promise of their own restaurant. Because as someone who only cooks at home, I know I could do better than that group of dropkicks.

Apart from that, his kitchen nightmares series is pretty good. He does have good business sense, and he knows how to run a kitchen and dining area. Also, he knows how to kick those who don't right in their ass.

I agree. The difference between the US version and the UK version is like night and day.

You can tell this just by watching it but I still find it entertaining.

It is important to note that Ramsay strongly denies any claim of 'staging' situations or whatever. However, it is reality television. Of course some of it is going to be 'put on' for the cameras. After-all reality itself isn't that entertaining. If it was, we wouldn't be watching TV everyday.

I have a feeling Ramsay tends to over-react and focus too much on the negatives of any given situation. Still, if it was all positive, it wouldn't be much of a program, would it?

I could theorize endlessly on this issue, but at the end of the day, it's entertaining. Ramsay gets the best out of people and often humiliates them along the way. He's smart and charismatic--and he is generally recognized as one of, if not the best in his field. His trademark short-temper really makes him come into his own and distinguishes him from other 'celebrity chefs' though, it's just a part of who he is.

Go and check out the first 2 episodes of Boiling Point on youtube. An employee with a hidden camera exposed him on a show called "Worlds Worst Bosses" way before he ever became truly famous--and he didn't even know the camera was there, obviously. It's just who he is.

I don't have that strong of an opinion on him either way, but as someone who has worked in the service industry most of their life from places like dive bars to three star restaraunts, no Chef I have ever met can be respected while acting like that much of an ass as he does on TV.

Anthony Bourdain > Gordon Ramsay, anyday, all day.

you say Ramsay's brother is a heroin addict, well Anthony Bourdain himself was a heroin addict, and something of a punk rocker in NYC.

Ok?? I wasn't saying it as some sort of one-up-manship. It was simply an interesting fact. It has no bearing on his ability to cook. It just so happens that this is a thread about Gordon Ramsay.
