man, i just finished writing a largish post to introduce myself with some history, lost it when i posted it due to "site maintenance" booowhoooohoooo!!
Anyway, back to the drawing board, literally. First off, glad to have found this forum. I hope to converse with like-minded/interests folks whom to share precious time and knowledge.
A little chem-hisherstory. Did a long stint on the methadone program beginning in 1985 till 1999. It took about 5 years to ween off of methadone and finally come off of the program. I was and remained clean from 1995 till about 2007. Then I relapse and asked a Dr licensed/qualified to prescribe opioids for chemical dependency, for help in 2008. He didn't prescribe Methadone but suggested prescribing Buprenorphine hcl [brand name Subutex]. I gave it a go, but it didn't help me. I was still dabbling, taking opiates IV and using when I had $$ and thought I could remain comfortable taking bupe during times of no $$. BIG mistake. Lack of intel, and not knowing anyone who lived a similar "life-style" either forced on them or by choice [and who would???]... I had to learn through life-experience.
To clarify and for the less experienced or rehearsed. Buprenorphine blocks other opiates at the opiate receptor, it has a much stronger attraction/hold to those receptors than other opiates, but it does not have the so called [or sort-after] "high" of heroin e.g. After spending, let's say $150 for the street drug, if one has been taking bupe for a number of days [where the system is saturated to some degree with it], taking heroin is a compete waste of money and time, since bupe will pretty well completely block its effect. If one wants to use heroin or any other opiate for that matter, one has to with hold taking bupe for some 2 to 3 days, so that the body eliminates most of the blocking effect of bupe, before one can take another opiate and feel its "effect".
SO, this life-style was not one that I would condone but to the contrary. I was feeling low and depression soon took its toll. I lost a lot of weight, and I knew I had to take another route in order to enjoy some sort of better life. I decided to see another Dr who agreed that I needed to be prescribed Methadone instead of Buprenorphine. Since I've been prescribed methadone, life has been much, much better.
I enjoy writing, performing and recording music. I have a strong interest in healthy eating, and I believe that food should be grown organically, and enjoy what's in season and as grown local as possible with some exceptions, such as dried fruit, cereals, seeds and nuts. The food I eat is not processed with chemicals or adulterated in any form apart for fermentation, in which I am very well rehearsed. In fact, I'm certain that this active interest is what has saved me from a much shorter life span. One has to have self-worth and take good care of the only body / mind that we are privileged to have.
Thanks for having me and stay well
