Hi, long time reader 1st time poster :\
Just thought id get peoples comments and experiences on there trips to the shrink.
Hmm where to start.
All though out school i remember being shy and having anxiety from feeling that i was being stared at and being judged. Witch was most likely being ture coming out at school and going though the emo and cutting faze.
After leaving at year 10 things became better, came out of my shell and everything became so much more simple. knowing who i was as a person and what not.

After a couple of years i met someone that i really started to fall for and started experimenting with drugs Pot mostly then lead on to the speed, ice and acid. Things started to go down hill after that, found out the guy i was seeing turned out to be someone else when i wasn't there. "cheating whore in fact", i tried to sort things out and that was helping until we had acid one night at hes mates place, we had a fight and i could not sleep for 3 days.

A month after i was still getting stoned everyday to help me sleep and i went to the doctor about my anxiety i was put on 50MG of ENDEP to help me sleep soon after i stopped smoking pot to help me to sleep. After being on the waiting list to go to a clinical psychologist , i was told medication would not help and started going to cognitive behaviour therapy in the end that did help boost me out of the depression rut i was in and help my ego.

I decided the endep was making me feel like i was in a bubble free from harm, so i stopped taking it went though a massive comedown and my sleep was back to the same waking up with night terrors when ever i was stressed and not being able to sleep. So i got another referral to a psychologist and told him about my drug history and that i had cognitive behaviour therapy. He did put me on a few things until i found 100MG of SEROQUEL makes most of my nights a prefect sleep. He also has put me on 0.5MG of XANX for my anxiety, i have to admit i do abuse my XANX now and then.

I did ask him what he thinks causes my sleeping problems and is there any sort of test to see why, he said theres not that out there to see why sleep problems happen. I do have a family history of drug abuse and schizophrenia ( due to speed psychosis)

Thats my story, do you think seroquel will help for the long term? Also do you think that my drug use has played apart in my sleep sleep disturbances.

Thanks to anyone who reads and comments! sorry for any grammar mistakes!

Hi, hopefully you get some good replies, it sounds like a complex issue tho and the right professional help and guidance would be a great thing, if you havent found the right shrink or GP yet, keep trying as the right one can make the right decisions and be a lifesaver or very valuable etc.

As you probably know these forums and threads have loads of info, and lots of the threads are buried pages back, but try using the search feature about anything that comes into your mind and you might find others have posted something similar or had similar experiences etc. 'Forum Tools Search Forum up on the right next to the thread pages.

I did a quick search on seroquel for you and came up with these 2 threads -

http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/threads/528132-Seroquel-question

http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/threads/532316-Seroquel

they might be worth a read, and there is the 'strong sleeping tablets' thread -

Good luck with it all, keep talking about it and trying to find out what works best for you.

Hi Bromance007 and welcome to the boards!

Sorry I can't really add anything useful (because as Poledriver said in the excellent post above it sounds like a complex situation), but thought I'd just wish you luck and let you know that there is a good community here with lots of information to share.

Poledriver: great post and keep up the good work you've been doing here on BL!

The darkside is a good place to go if you want to talk about mental illness and counselling. but so is here too, because alot of people here have suffered from a mental illness of some description at some point in their lives.

I have had success with CBT with psychologists. you have to find a good one though, which can be difficult. Actually going to see a psychologist tomorrow for the first time in 2 years. Luckily this time the issues aren't as serious as previously.

i won't go into great detail about my mental health history but in the past I have suffered from depression and anxiety. Also insomnia. And of course like many of us here, drug abuse and addiction. Seeing a psychologist, keeping healthy and active, keeping busy and being around friends alot does wonders.

cheers poledriver for talking up my 'strong sleeping tablets' thread.

^^Everything psytaco said about keeping active and seeing friends is spot on. I would also recommend intense exercise and meditation to help with sleep and a general feeling of wellbeing.

I have had some experience with anxiety/depression and have been happily sober for a few months now after using marijuana very heavily for 3 years. Was also prescribed seroquel throughout that period and my opinion on it (this is purely my opinion) was that it actually prevented me from becoming happy at all- ie. i would find it very hard to feel anything other than dull after taking it to assist with sleep. The same can be said for marijuana in my case to some extent.

OP, i definitely found that my drug use impacted my sleep negatively and in the long run the best thing for it was just stopping everything that i had been using as it was much simpler than having a constant cause/effect relationship with substances so that i could sleep. You might find it really hard to sleep for a couple of weeks especially if you feel that the root cause is anxiety but your sleeping will level out. Bedtime hygiene/sleep-wake cycle was also something i overlooked but now think is essential- ie. don't be on the computer or watching television til all hours. Just get into bed at the same time every night and read or something. Even if you are lying awake for hours at first if you continue to sleep and wake up at the same time your body will hopefully become used to this new pattern and want to sleep when you want it to sleep.

Best of luck!

Thanks heaps for your replies; yeah i do have a good support circle of friends. Also have been doing bikram yoga for a few months and that seems to help heaps.
As for the sleep cycle i have a 200l salt water tank beside my bed and my sleep cycle is the same as the tank, if i sleep in the light wakes me up before lunch time witch is good.
Lately iv been having a dream about slipping into a acid psychosis.

my mind is pretty stable lately since i quit work and having nothing better to do with the day but look for jobs and ponder at lifes meanings lol
I just wonder if taking this medication will effect me negatively in the long term. i guess it wont if im planing to have another big new years; nothing like speeding though the end of the year watching fireworks off ya face.
Going to be great this year as i wont have braces on my teeth to chop at my cheeks.

all the best mate. if you makes you feel any better, your not alone in going through a shitty time. I'm going through one myself and also having shitty sleep.

One additional thing I could suggest is saving money you would spend on drugs (because less face it they do not help mental health problems) and save up for a nice holiday overseas. Gives you something to look forward too, will give you a break from bullshit back home. Also lets you have some fun. Alot of countries you can travel around for less than $1000 a month. Done this in both Latin America and South East Asia. Both places I would thoroughly recommend.
