Opioids Going on vacation to get off opiates, good or bad idea?

hey tricomb: that may apply to you. some people act like a total dick when in WD. i do to some people but i really try to hold back. i always remain pleasant to my fiancé and she knows what i am going through. she is very understanding. but it will not ruin the trip, necessarily, if they are not on opiates. sometimes doing something like treating yourself to a trip can ease the psychological withdrawal because there are new people to meet, new stuf to see, new restruants to eat at, etc. things that make non-addicts very happy.

to the OP, i say go for it. i have a bit of advice on how I would deal with the situation but my mileage obviously varies from yours. that being said, you are still going to have WD, though. you need to taper or you will end up asking random people that may look like "users"...you'll be looking for people with constricted pupils, etc. tbh. even when i am in my worst of WD, if i can get my hands on just 4 narco 10's or something like that. i can take 4 in the morning (CWE ALWAYS) and 2 at night. really helps my wallet out, too. very hard to control myself though. going out of town is a good idea.
that being said, i recommend you take some T3's with you, anyway. obviously they are not going to get you high and may not even cut all the withdrawal but i would personally take maybe two in the morning and two at night while you are on your vacation and if you have a steady supply of T3, it would be a good opiate to taper with. way better than bupe, even, IMO. i've always found the best way to get clean for a bit is find a codeine source and taper with those. only take them when you start getting too sick to do anything and take smaaaaaall doses. just enough to plug some of those receptors up. taper your doseage of T3 over the course of 2 or three weeks, maybe, and then stop all together and see what happens. if you get WD, just take low doses of T3 and continue the taper? it's nice because you still get the gratification of taking an opiate (even though it is weak). bupe is an opiate but when i take bupe, i don't feel near as good as even if i just had a couple of ounces of lean. the knowledge that you are taking an opiate will often help you in the taper. good luck on your trip...but like i said, take some codeine with you if you can. just take normal-ish doses like i said. have a nice mini-vacation! good luck!

Sounds like a spoiled vacation to me and who's to say you won't go straight to the dopeman when you get back? Also, withdrawing from dilaudid isn't going to be any more fun than fent most likely. Careful with that.

First off, massive lol at your mum ksa. Thats was like a mirror of my family life....no wonder i left. :-D
to the OP, my personal view is that you may have the wrong place for a holiday WD. While fentanyl WD is relatively short, it will be violent, featuring lots of sweating, shitting and a good bit of vomiting. Those three things i would personally not want to do in a hot foreign land, with fairly basic healthcare and one person as my support network.
I know hes your partner and your in love (i guess.lol) but by day 3 your will severely dislike each other as you will both feel worse then you have ever felt before and remaining civil will be out the window.
I would do the physical WD at home and then take to holiday to reward myself and help with mental recovery.
What killsurfcity said about codeine is spot on ime, its a lovely opiate to taper with and will be alot more forgiving to come off.
One last thing i would add to an opiate/oid WD would be a small supply of benzos, really cant stress enough how happy you will be that you got them.
Good luck!

My bf and I are planning on going away in a couple days to Cuba or something to get away from opiates because this way we won't be able to get our hands on any no matter how bad we want them! We are getting off fentanyl and from what I've heard and read the withdrawals are the worst on the third day so we are just going to take diluadids and T3s for 2-3 days until we start our vacation in hopes things won't be TOO unbearable after.

I'm just starting to wonder if it's a good idea to do this as we obviously won't have access to any medication (OTC or prescription) or other things we may need to get through this.

What are everyones thoughts on this? Good or bad idea? If good, what should we pack to get through this hell!

Thanks guys!

BAD IDEA. With extra caps lock too.

I went on vacation when I was addicted to heroin. Let me tell you; all the green grass, palm trees and sunny beaches in the world won't mean shit when you're in withdrawal. All I wanted was to get back home. I cursed myself for not picking a country with OTC opiates. I even tried to throw in some extra cash at a pharmacy to get some codeine but I was shit out of luck lol.

Don't do it, you will be dissappointed.

Also th OP said she has only experienced full blown w/d for ONE day...I don't think she really understands the hell that awaits at the 48-72 hour mark

Swedish army woolens and an electric blanket will be your friend, even in Cuba.

Egads, what a terrible idea. You shall both be utterly miserable. The comfort of home is truly worth something when you're in withdrawal.

Yeah this does sound bad...I wouldn't fucking try it that's for sure...I would stay here in Canada and curl up in bed with some Box Set Seasons of my favourite TV series and large doses of CWE'd Codeine

I agree nothing is better than having a door that can stay locked for a week or so between you and the world outside when you know you don't have the strength to take care of anything.

to the Op don't know if it has been mentioned but for us junkies opiates have a nasty habit of finding us even abroad.

My professor (clinical psychologist) used to tell us how he wished he could just send all his patients to a $500 a night hotel instead of a $700 a night hospital.
