I just have a simple question. I'm on Pain management and have been for a year-ish. I'm taking 20-22mg of dilaudid tablets at a single dose. My doctor switched me to Dilaudid from Oxycodone IR. The Dilaudid is giving me problems. Can I go back to Oxycodone and take the equivalent dose of Oxycodone which would be like 50-55mg in a single dose?

My doctor has just dropped me with no instructions. I told him the Dilaudid was giving me horrible side effects and he said he didn't know what else to do and to wait until I could see a pain specialist. So I have no one right now until the 30th of this month.

They gave you no advice at all? Doesn't sound like the best doctor.. glad you are seeing a pain specialist.

I'd go back to your old oxycodone dose (presuming you have some left) until you see the specialist. The doses are pretty much equivalent according to the opioid conversion chart in my signature. If you want to be extra safe, ring your doctors office and check they are happy for you to do this - but I can't imagine they would want you to take a medication which disagrees with you, or to stop taking anything at all..

My doctor is horrible. When I spoke to him and told him I was having bad side effects he just said, "Well I don't know what to do. Try to get in to see (the pain specialist) sooner. Other than that I have no idea what to tell you to do." Yeah.... real nice.... right?

That's rubbish. Hope you get to see the pain specialist soon and you have enough oxycodone to last you in the meantime..

I'm going to close this, as your initial question has been answered, but feel free to come over to the social thread and let us know how you are getting on (or chat shit with us ) :)
