I'm a opiate user of 5 years and i am 20 years old. My tolerance is about 250 mg/day on pretty much a daily basis (thats hydrocodone or oxycodone and the occasional OC or Roxi). I was wondering if anyone could tell me how bad its going to be when i enter the detox center Saturday morning? its Richland Springs in Columbia SC and i just was wondering what the detox experience was like....how comfortable do they make you? ive been through withdrawals that not even hell could reckon with and i just cant go cold turkey on such high dosage....tapering didnt work it just left me partially stoned but still jonesin. any info would be greatly appreciated.

hey there ! i dont know anything about detox but im from columbia SC :)

wishing you lots of luck in your recovery :)

^ can u elaborate bc i have often wondered myself what detox centers are like.

Also, if I were on oxycontin or an opiate with a longer half life, or known longer w/d, I would switch to an shorting acting opiate like h or dilaudid bc then the w/d would only be like 3 days and 5 at the most. Instead of an oxycontin w/d which I hear last for a couple weeks.

Ok

Detox :

pack 4 pairs of pants or shorts / few things for wearing in bed - 5 pairs of sox , underwear. Apply this thought to shirts / hoodies.

When youget their they will take a urine test to make sure that you are indeed using opiates , and they will offer you the treatment methods - be it suboxone , methadone , or libruim with clonodine.

After a full search of you and your possessions they will take you back to your room, normally you will not have a single, up to 3 others will share it (I've been to 13 detoxes some are less per room than others).

Once they take your vitals and declare you to be in withdrawal, they will adminster your first dose of medication either right there , or at the next time on the nurses med schedule.

Likely you will meet up with a "team" be it a doctor , and therapist - or more or less - this varies - they will discuss aftercare treatment plans with you, and discuss how you will remain sober after your stay.

During the day you will have groups to attend - a lot of detoxes have NA / AA groups - some places have these manditory , some have them voluntary - I would go , the time goes quicker and you are in a place to get help and learn - these groups can offer this.

Most beds are covered in rubber so puke / urine / shit won't sink in - ask for two covers so you do not stick to the bed and wake up sweaty (sux).

Make the most of it , and it will not be too bad , hang in there :) if you wanna know anything more specific just msg me, I know detoxes lol.

I would recommend a sub taper. By far the least torturous in my experience. Just don't let them start you on too high a dose. I've tapered starting at 2mg and it was enough to alleviate 90% at least. Just go down a bit every couple of days.

Hopefully they know (really know) what they are doing. Often they start you on way too high a dose. If you are buzzed it is way too high a dose.Remeber the purpose is detox.

I actually think if ever a time to run higher a dose it would be in detox - having a buzz of any sorts that also keeps you from thinking heroin ..... that would've been a life saver, everytime i go to a sub detox max i've gotten was 16mg , normally 12 - 8 - 8 - 8 -4 - 4 , that dose is great if you like to take a few OTC codeine tablets, but w the habit i had it barely did more than make the days manageable / forget sleep even w xanax n sleeping pills + seroquel - forget hunger - my point: 2mg is not nearly enough to detox from heroin, and any decent size opiate habit - it would help but it would not aleve the symptoms.

^ If i had ever been on 2mgs, i would've walked righ out the front door - my suggestion - find a dose you are COMFORTABLE at , right at day 1 - from their be honest with the team / nurse / doctor - and you will make it through alright.

oh ya - bring tons of quarters , almost forgot.

quarters?

and payphones. normally you get 2 calls thru nursing station or the staff office - but after that it's incoming only to get to you and pay phones for out going.

Opiate withdrawal is never gonna be comfortable, it's just one of those things you gotta accept. A proper detox centre is gonna be the best place to do it though. Good luck :)
