I got the hiccups from a dose of kratom this morning I believe. Anyway I can't get rid of them today. I've drank the water, I've sucked lemons, etc. Would Seroquel help I know the use this other antipsychotic sometimes for hiccups? Any other meds that might work? I feel like shit and am having trouble doing the research.

Hold your breath as long as you can. Always works for me.

The hold your breath thing only works for me when they first start.
You could keep trying it though. Or swallow a spoonful of sugar (old wive's tale?)

Hi OP I hope you are feeling better and not having the hiccups anymore. If you have tried and unsuccessful with getting rid of hiccups on your own, perhaps you can visit your doctor and mention these prescription medications:

baclofen - a muscle relaxant
chlorpromazine - an antipsychotic medication
gabapentin - typically used for treating epilepsy, it is now prescribed for neuropathic pain and hiccups
haloperidol - an antipsychotic medication
metoclopramide (Reglan) - a medication used for the treatment of nausea

Let us know the results.

Aren't hiccups basically your diaphragm going into overload? Just control your breathing to relax it and control it and they should disappear.

Kratom acts on the opiate receptors, and opiates have a history of causing hiccups in some people. Here's an old BL thread talking about it.

Normally hiccups are caused by a stomach that's too full which presses on the diaphragm, the diagraphm and the lungs being out of synch, excessively cold food, or some kind of irritation of the vagas nerve. Sometimes an empty stomach can cause it too, so people drink water.

You can try deep breathing, which means inhaling until your lungs are so full that you can't possibly inhale anymore. Don't hyper-ventilate, just breathe normally. Sometimes this will put the diagraphm back in sync. If it's a neural issue, then it will wear off whenever the receptor-related issue recovers from the kratom use.

Acupuncture also works, but I have a feeling your issue will go away soon.
