'God' but no afterlife? An under-discussed topic

^^ I have to agree, especially about how the Dao de Jing trumps the bible any day. If people could just agree to be less dogmatic and more "go with the flow" that would help a lot.

Darkness seems to be most harmful attached to anger and extreme lust; when one allows anger to fester in their heart or one allows lust to fester to where they have no regards for the object of their lust then these things can take over and ruin someone way more than just about anything else ever could. And "feeling victimized" can often grow into "becoming an abuser" if one cannot let go of such feelings.

Addiction/obsession is probably the only other thing that is really super destructive. One can latch on to just about anything to become addicted to it. Most people are addicted to hedonism or escapism at some level. And I see far too many people becoming addicted to dogma and obsessing over "pleasing god" or obsessing over "the afterlife" or "being right" instead of focusing on healthier things.

If you let go of anger, lust, and addiction and focus on going with the flow then you can start experiencing ego loss and then life becomes much more harmonious.

I can sort of buy into the concept of existence being one living conscious organism and we are like basically parts of this creature that you could call "god", similar to the cells in a body, kind of like in the movie Osmosis Jones.

In Judaism we certainly are deists but absolutely don't believe in a Heaven OR a Hell. So yes,it is possible.

To the other issue raised, the paradox of Premeditation and Freewill. Judaism reconciled it thousands of years ago. If you are familiar with Aristophanes' take on it you can begin to understand.

If you're using "deist" in the sense that it is often used, to refer to the belief that the divine does not interfere with the natural laws of the universe, I'm not really sure how that can apply to Judaism when, according to the Torah, God is a regular meddler inthe world.

I'm not familiar with Aristophanes's take on it, would you mind elucidating please?

That would be awesome, if true. You could just thumb your nose at Him, like get completely ripped on Sunday mornings, and what the hell is He going to do you? He has no everlasting hell burning to use as extortion, and no heavenly salvation as a bribe. It would really equalize things with Him.

Im not so sure bout your word choice.
I believe in the idea of the utopia/dystopia ending after life.
But i dnt believe them as bribes or extortion.
That wud indicate you didnt deserve what you ultimately receive.
You get what you deserve in the end because God is fair.

"god" or the first being/creator is simply a consciousness who came into being from gaining awareness. "god" gained this awareness from somewhere/everywhere in this golden egg/womb that is our universe. When he was just one/alone he realized to gain immense enjoyment he would create us human beings in his likeness, each of us as a part of his consciousness. But in order to not be bored knowing exactly what we would do, he gave us the power of free will. Since we are made in his likeness and have free will we can either do anything/go anywhere we desire, eventually and even gain all of his powers for when we see "god" each of us sees him as our self, for "god" is merely our ultimate potential if we wish to become it again. This is why we as humans are "all one" but also we are individuals for as long as we wish because of our free will it gives us a separate spirit/soul from each other.

Outside of our womb made/created entirely out of love is the anti-love beings, or de-love or what not. They are shadow creatures/beings who live in a dimension one higher then our current one, and are always trying to control/break into our egg and gain our powers. By advanced techniques they sent the snake to our garden of edge and tempted us with the evil corrupted apple that gave us humans our first addiction. Addictions/cravings are evil in nature and they have taken over our earth and enslaved us into investing and believing all these negative lies/evil realities as truth/history.

The secret is they have control over other "non-human beings" that look like humans on this planet. These beings have more knowledge then us because they live one dimension higher and have given these evil beings that live on our world advanced wisdom and technology in order to enslave us and keep us ignorant to the truth that will set us free from wants(addictions/cravings) & needs(water/food/air/comfort/love) Once we all know the truth we will have all our needs/wants met constantly and won't have any responsibilities/jobs. With the advanced wisdom these evil beings have they have re-written history & made systems that only serve to teach us how to do tasks that are nothing more then busy-work that limits you from thinking about how to change the world for the better because these tasks/jobs/schooling exhausts you mentally.

By the way their is definitely an afterlife, although I'm not sure exactly what I know of many possibilities that are very probable. Also don't think these anti-love beings are so bad because they are our opponents, without them live would get boring, they give us excitement. Also their are multiple other species of beings other then humans that "god" has created, some in this universe, some in other dimensions. These beings look different then us however so they can never have the level of potential in life as us humans can, if we learn to love enough :).

If there was n o afterlife how do you explain ghosts and spirits? How do you explain people with near death experiences explaining some type of afterlife, or what about mediums and psychics?

1. The over-active mind recognising patterns too easily (ever notice how your mind sees two dots with a line inside a circle and turns it into a face?).
2. Unusual brain chemistry producing unusal experiences.
3. Charlatans.

This isn't necessarily what I believe, but it is how someone who did not believe in any kind of afterlife might respond.

^ sometimes I wish I could be atheist, but if I ignore my shamanism for too long and try to be one then the entities I'm in contact with reward me with a NDE to snap me out of it. After having six NDE's and tons of really weird synchronicities that are way to strong to explain away as merely coincidence then even my rational mind that craves simplicity, atheism, and scientific thinking has no choice but to be swayed. Doesn't mean that I have all the answers, but there is more going on then just being born, living ~80 years, and turning into dust.

^Hang on, these entities "reward" you by nearly killing you? And you've been on the verge of death 6 times?

I was being sarcastic with the word "reward" but yeah I've had six NDE's...well one of them was from me trying to OD b/c I was feeling suicidal...but the others were pretty random.

Seems like a fair assumption to me. Heaven probably wouldn't have cancer, and earthquakes, and ethnic cleansing.

well all that might not even be real....so.............

life is the journey into the divine, we are here to create our part to the whole. life is dualistic, but we live to become one. Thats what comes next a life where unity and onesss only exists.

No God, but an afterlife, is another position even less considered that is not incoherent.

For example: it can be argued that it is impossible to experience death, if death is considered lack of consciousness, and experience of something requires consciousness; one will never experience death. This is somewhat like Zeno's Paradox. That to get to point B from point A, one must traverse half the distance to point B, and again must get half-way to B from the half-way point of A, and then half-way from there, and half-way again ad infinum, and in the act of transport, due to the infinitesimal scalability, never reach point B; and always in some manner be infinitely distant from it on an objective level. This is similar to "Quantum Immortality" theory.

I have always believed in God, but nowadays I am starting the think it may not be the God we all thought. Same thing goes for after life imo.
