ENID — Enid Police Department Narcotics Unit detectives seized cash, glass tubes and suspected synthetic marijuana after serving a search warrant Wednesday at an Enid convenience store.
Detectives served the warrant at 1:40 p.m. at the J Store, 1131 E. Broadway, and seized $33,515 cash, more than 2,000 glass tubes that could be diverted for drug consumption and 47 bags of suspected synthetic marijuana, said EPD Sgt. Dustin Albright.
An officer with the Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office was at the store investigating an unrelated matter, he said, and saw what he believed to be packages of synthetic marijuana. The agent contacted EPD.
Effective Nov. 1, 2010, state law made it illegal for a retailer to offer for sale glass tubes, as defined in Title 63 section 2-101.2.
The statute applies to all “glass tubes” that are a hollow glass cylinder, either open or closed at either end, no less than 2 or more than 7 inches in length and not less than one-eighth inch or more than three-fourths an inch in diameter. It also applies to items that could be used in the storage or consumption of drugs or “glass tubes” sold individually, or in connection with another object such as a novelty holder, flower vase or pen. The sale of such items is a misdemeanor.
Among the glass tubes seized Wednesday were glass tire pressure gauges, glass tubes containing artificial flowers and a bag of short glass pipes, according to police. The tubes commonly are used in the ingestion of illegal substances, namely crack cocaine and methamphetamine, police said.
“There is no legal reason to have those,” Capt. Dean Grassino said.
