A really awesome standard upright bong broke recently into 2 pieces. It's a cheap grommet style bong, and is pretty light. For a while there was a crack right where one would hold the upper shaft (3/4 the way up the bong, about 4 inches down from the mouth-hole). Luckily it was well above where the water sits, and it was quite a clean horizontal break (almost no glass bits fell at all), so the top portion could be placed back onto the rest of the bong tightly with no "holes". Also the bong is a colored-transparent so I can see what's going on, another advantage.
Right now, it is held together by clear 'shipping' tape, which seems to be working and there is no loss of suction or water leakage. However, I think over time with moisture (I have to pour water down over the break to fill the bong) the tape will begin to fail, and need a more long-term solution. This bong is awesome and a rare find since (1) it's see-through, (2) has a larger-than-usual water chamber so it filters well, (3) is JUST the perfect shape/size both functionally and aesthetically. I've been to smoke shops many times and have never seen anything like it, so I'd like to repair this one and keep it. It is about 5 years old, and a non-pyrex type of glass.
Is there a type of water resistant-glue that works on non-heavy glass tube, and is non-toxic? I always use ice cold water, so by the time the smoke passes by where the break is it's not very hot, but still, I'd like to be cautious about toxicity and/or the glue having a high vaporization temperature so it won't be inhaled.
