Anyone have thoughts on NK's nuclear test earlier today?
Getting a little alarmed at the international response focusing on the fact that the device was likely fission powered fusion rather than pure fusion. Whether it meets the criterion to be classed as an H-bomb seems less pertinent than the notion of a military dictatorship in a perpetual war with its neighbour possessing a 50KT yield ICBM.

If my understanding is correct, the fusion in an H-bomb is triggered by a first stage fission device. I doubt it was an H-bomb but, even if so, they most probably have no means of miniaturisation so they wouldn't be able to deliver it via ballistic missile. As usual, it's mostly propaganda and any further sanctions on NK are inhumane towards the citizens (indoctrinated or not). No sanction is going to change NK's policies.

Really depends on where the sanctions come from. China are their only real supporter and they weren't happy in 2013 when NK conducted testing.

I still think the chinese will keep them in check but for me the worry is Pakistan if it became secular and with all their nukes.

Yeah Pakistan is a worry being so heavily armed. I just hope they can keep a lid on religious extremists amongst those in power. The world is really fucked up at the moment and unfortunately i only see it getting worse.
