When my parents met my partners parents it was a disaster. Both have money and it's a constant pissing contest akin to the Fast Show "I've Looooodsa Moneyyyyy"

Why are you here?

Im just asking generally. People tend to forget we are not here forever

But how do you know we're not here forever? I mean in the human form yea we cease to exist but in terms of energy we may be here forever. I mean it depends on a person's belief system n of course we have no proof of any possible mortality but what religion n spirituality tells us.

Evey

Does it matter? we can only see as far as our own experiences so our thoughts and decisions are based on that

If I'm going to be a happy proton for eternity certainly it does not mean much to me

Were we? For eternity?

I believe so. The bible says in numerous places we were built for forever...we weren't meant to die for a start. I like this verse in Ecclesiastes (3:11) 'He has put eternity in our hearts'

I was just pondering, given that we are mind, body and Spirit. When we become conscious of sin (somewhere in adolescence) we die in some sense 'the soul that sins will die'...Whats left is a huge, abysmal black God shaped hole..then we feel it like an itch that cant be scratched...and spend the rest of our lives trying to fill it...often in even more sinful * ways. If we die without reconciliation and a spirit that has been regenerated through faith perhaps we plunge into that bottomless pit.

* I know its an old fashion word but I cant think of another for the concept.

Just ponderings btw

Interesting view point, personally I have fundemental issues with organised religion it simply does not fit with my perception of reality and truth although I accept that others may see things differently.

I don't hold with a view of a life after death that retains ego and truly believe that when religions talk about heaven and hell it refers to how we choose to live our lives in the here and now, time and the apparent linear nature of its passing are incidental.

Why do we search for God, why do we sense a greater consciousness ? because like a wave rising from the ocean we are part of the God, the illusion of the wave enables us the comprehend existence in a unique way at the end the wave falls back to the ocean, no words could define what that state is or was.

I find religion to prescriptive, my view of things is personnel, real truth can't be written down it is beyond words and the idea that people will be in some way punished for not following someone elses dogma holds no water.

I'm not having a pop at Christians or any other religion there are many good people who have 'faith' its just not for me

Disagree under the umbrella of Love evey... not deliberately probing at old wounds and twisting events. For what reason they do it I don't really know.

The wave thing is Buddhist / Zen, not mine but it struck a chord with me. I believe that we can sometimes comprehend truth by words bur that this is more about enlightenment

Terence McKenna summed this up with If the truth can be told so as to be understood, it will be believed. so I believe that some may find theie truth via religeon.

I know Christianity best, my mother was a Sunday school teacher and I went to church school. The bible is already an edited compilation of various documents but dig around a little and you';; find all kinds of odd stuff...shell fish an abomination ?

The idea that someone could lead a good and selfless life but burn for eternity in hell because they never even saw a church or a bible by an entity that created the entire universe doesnt stack up with me,

As we learn more about the fabric of our reality it's clear that what we experience is but a thin veneer, at a particle level the rules fall apart and it's clear that we havent even begun to understand how the universe really ticks.
