Has anyone here ever experienced visuals from high doses of ghb and does anyone know how it would cause them? It has happened to me twice in the past week (I use ghb to help me sleep a few nights per week). First time was with a dose of around 7g (a little higher than my normal dose). I drank it but instead of going to sleep I went on 4chan and started trolling. After about 1h I was feeling it pretty strongly. I decided to go to the bathroom to piss. As I was sitting on the toilet (at night I don't turn on the light in the bathroom so I have to pee sitting down) I started getting mad visuals. They are hard to describe, but they weren't anything like you would get from any psychedelic I've ever tried (shrooms, various 2cs). It was like I was watching a 1000 cartoons and everything was a little orange. They were the same with closed and opened eyes. When I got out of the bathroom which is completely dark to the corridor which isn't that dark they were gone. After that, I went to bed and slept normally and woke up refreshed.
At the time I wasn't sure that it was caused by the ghb, so I decided to find out. Last night I took around 9g and waited to see what would happen. After around 45 minutes I was feeling it coming on strong. Everything in my room started spinning (kinda like when you're really drunk except that I wasn't feeling sick) and I thought that that was that and I was just going to fall asleep. However as the room was spinning it started turning orange (it was supposed to be gray since the lights were turned off) and then it started to move away from me like it was at the end of a tunnel and the tunnel was getting longer. If I closed my eyes I got the cartoon characters again. I don't really remember much after that, I guess that I fell asleep. When I woke up today I had a killer headache like I had drunk a bottle of vodka the previous night.
I've been reading about the effects of disassociatives and the tunnel and the effects being more visible in the dark make me think it has some sort of disassociative effect at high doses. But I wonder what is causing it. As far as I know ghb binds to the ghb and gabab receptors, but I haven't heard of these two causing hallucinations.
There are a few reports of hallucinations from ghb on erowid - http://www.erowid.org/experiences/exp.php?ID=23151 and http://www.erowid.org/experiences/exp.php?ID=26312 but other than that all I can find is hallucinations during withdrawal.

A note about the doses - yes I know they I high, normal doses never worked for me. They are accurate to about +-0.5g. I'm using ghb dissolved in watter at a concentration of 0.5g/ml (very accurately measured), but I dose with a shot glass which has markings for every ml between 10ml and 20ml (which isn't that accurate).

I thought I would just throw in an experience I had with GBL that is somewhat similar to yours. I had taken about 3.5 mL, a pretty high dose considering my weight. About twenty minutes after ingestion, the room starting spinning in a very alchool-like fashion. I felt like lying down, and decided to go to sleep. While almost falling asleep, I developped something similar to vivid dreaming or deliriant-like delusions. I was in front of a fridge, and could see all the food in contained, oignons, apples, meat. My senses were overwhelmed with that food. It was a very akward, strong experience. I was probably heavily sedated, yet not asleep. I find some dreamy opiate nods might come close to this feeling. It was overall pretty confusing.
As for neuropharmacology:
GHB induces the accumulation of either a derivative of [3H]-tryptophan or [3H]-tryptophan itself in the extracellular space, possibly by increasing tryptophan transport across the blood-brain barrier. The blood content of certain neutral amino-acids, including tryptophan, is also increased by peripheral GHB administration. GHB-induced stimulation of tissue serotonin turnover may be due to an increase in tryptophan transport to the brain and in its uptake by serotonergic cells. As the serotonergic system may be involved in the regulation of sleep, mood, and anxiety, the stimulation of this system by high doses of GHB may be involved in certain neuropharmacological events induced by GHB administration.
[...] There has been somewhat limited research into the GHB receptor; however, there is evidence that activation of the GHB receptor in some brain areas results in the release of glutamate, the principle excitatory neurotransmitter.

I have used 1,4 BDO (prodrug for GHB) and I never experienced hallucinations. In smallish doses, I usually notice a slightly pleasant dizzying sensation along with strange stimulant like effects (goosebumps in particular).

When I press the dose higher, it's as though there were an OFF and ON switch in my brain and once the dose gets high enough it switches over to OFF and I am left hunched in a strange position and drooling on my shirt. There has been an occasional enhancement of imagination in higher doses but this usually doesn't last long because I usually pass out soon after.

can't high levels of dopamine cause schizophrenia? Or make your visuals a lot more or something? Maybe it has something to do with dopamine levels. Or I could just be totally wrong lol. just a guess really
