GHB and a metal stirrer

This is my first post however I have been an avid reader of the forum for some time now.

I recently used sodium hydroxide to convert GBL to GHB and followed the instructions to a T apart from one small detail: I was meant to use a glass rod as a stirrer to dissolve the flakes of sodium hydroxide but didn't have one so used a teaspoon.

I was left with a clear solution that tastes salty as expected but have been thinking a lot as to whether using a metal stirrer for the sodium hydroxide will have tainted the mixture in any way?

Forgive me as I know nothing about chemistry but am hoping to tap into some knowledge on here as I don't want to risk my health. I am only an occasional user.

I hope this post isn't against any rules as I could really do with some advice on this.

If it's a stainless steel spoon then it's probably OK. I've done the same myself and it always turned out fine.
 
Never ever use aluminium or galvanized steel containers or utensils with sodium hydroxide as they react with alkali in the same way they do with acids ie corrode away , but respectively form sodium aluminate or sodium zincate (PS chromium reacts this way as well, so keep an eye on the spoon)
 
Stainless steel, despite containing chrome and iron, holds up pretty well to bases at room temperature for reasonable lengths of time.
I've used stainless steel labware with hydroxides, and unless you leave it for extended periods, there's no trace of corrosion (and the products of corrosion are brilliantly colored - bright yellows and greens).
It takes long periods of time, or really extreme conditions to cause significant corrosion.
 
SS is usually an alloy of chrome, iron, and nickel.

Generic stainless (18/10) is 18% chrome 10% nickel.

I'm a little worried as I seem to have had stomach ache that's got progressively worse after dosing a couple of times with the above mentioned batch.
I have a pre-existing stomach condition where by stomach produces too much stomach acid and take the medication Omeprazole for this and I'm starting to think there may have been some kind of interaction with this?
I have taken laxatives to 'flush me out' and induced vomiting by drinking salt water to see if this helped but i hasn't.
I'm wondering whether to go to A and E or wait and go to the doctors on Tuesday when they open.
Any advice would be much welcomed.
 
Nausea is a pretty common side effect with GHB. I get it everytime to some degree. Maybe your GBL has not been of very high grade? Many vendors claim their GBL is 99,99% pure while this is rarely the truth.

As for the spoon I think its okay. I know of people who use stainless steel for both container and stirrer with no visible corrosion even after many uses.
