I just turn 66 and had a very nice job which I really enjoyed doing, until they hired a friend of the manager which I found out was promise my job. Well after 1 yr they lay me off with no excuse because I live in a state where they can do that type of stuff. I have a family and a house to pay for and have been looking for 4 months, it's a waste of time I have sent out 60 resumes and had 25 interview until they find out how old you are. Experience does not mean anything and if you don't have a connect you will not even get chance to prove yourself. I even try part time work and even a job in a landfill picking up trash. I am getting to the end of my unemployment and don't know what to do.

Hey there and welcome to the site,

Tough situation to find yourself in at any age when you have bills to pay and make ends meet. Some jobs are more suited for older people - could you not perhaps do some tour guide work ? Is your state popular with tourists? You don't state what type of work you do but what about online sales type of work, customer service etc

Why not start a thread over in 'Second Opinion' - maybe put a bit more information into your type of work and see where it goes.

Can you get help from the government?

Good luck
