Misc Getting off suboxone compared to getting off methadone

At the detox place I was at one of the nurses said that studies have shown it's just about as hard to get off of suboxone as opposed to methadone. I find that kind of hard to believe. Methadone actually gets me high even while in the middle of a heroin addiction, suboxone doesn't get me high even with no tolerance to opioids (I'll feel it after a long peroid of abstaince but I wouldn't call it a high & it's mild). What do you guys think?

I've been on both methadone & suboxone. I basically went cold turkey off suboxone & it wasnt too bad plus I was definity going through PAWS from heroin on top of acute suboxone withdrawal. It was honestly pretty easy to go through in rehab, it felt like a month of PAWS, the RLS sucked though. I got off 80mg a day of methadone with suboxone, the first few days were very uncomfortable but things got better quick.

If it's just as hard to get off methadone than suboxone I'd much rather be on methadone. Methadone works much better at stopping me from shooting dope plus I feel a little buzz from taking it. With suboxone if I don't take it for about 30hrs I can shoot heroin & my tolerance will be lower than before. On subs I tend to go on heavy heroin binges, by heavy I mean around 40 bags of very good ECP a day for a few days & then go back on suboxone when I run out of $. SHOULD I SWITCH TO METHADONE?

Just because you don't feel a high on Suboxone doesn't mean its not addictive. Lots say sub's are worse to get off than methadone but generally its about the same. Its up to you which one you take but keep in mind methadone will stop getting you high eventually too each dose will begin to overlap so you have a steady flow of opiates that you get used to so no euphoria is felt with your regular dose. For me I find the high from Suboxone far superior than methadone but that's my opinion though to me methadone makes me tired, constipated, and doesn't even give much euphoria. Suboxone can work wonders if you let it do its job but if you really feel you want to be on methadone then try it out who am I to tell you not to its all about finding what works for you.

If it's about the same I'd much rather be on methadone. I was on methadone maintenance for a year & it worked really well at stopping me from doing heroin, much better than suboxone. My first 30mg of methadone got me soo fucking high & euphoric I actually thought I OD'd after I smoked weed (my heroin habit wasn't too bad back then).

I got kicked out for having a panic attack on LSA (HBWR seeds) & going to the hospital, which also is where I was getting methadone, I thought I had cyanide poisoning from not washing the seeds, I kept throwing up 8hrs after I dosed. It's fucked up I got kicked off for that & now they won't even take me back so I have to go to one farther away every morning if I want it. That's why I went on subs & not methadone, its too much of a hassle since I don't drive & have to take the bus.

It's up to you if you want the hassle and you feel you are not done getting high. I would go with the sub's myself but that's me we are all different and what works for one may not work for another. So do what keeps you from shooting dope if the methadone does that then by all means get back on it. Its certainly better than doing heroin.

On paper suboxone should be easier to quit because it activates opioid receptors less fully than methadone.

The mental dependence of being on opioids is usually a bigger factor though.

Yea that's right on paper but in reality many say the long drawn out withdrawal Suboxone carries is worse than going through 10 methadone detoxes.
