Getting off of Poppy Pod tea train-withdrawals

Hi there. Hope I'm posting this is the correct spot. My apologies if not.
I'm looking for help and suggestions with coming off of a poppy pod habit.
I've been taking poppy tea for over a year now. I started with seeds as my dr threw me out of his practice for my wife allegedly selling her pain pills. She might have been, I was not. However I found myself with no Meds after being prescribed four percs a day for over a year. This led me to poppy tea which was easy to acquire. Then I tried poppy pods which gave me much more predictable high and pain relief.
Over the year I've gone from 10 grams of poppy pod grounds per day to 25-30 grams per day which is where I am now. I just can't afford to keep the habit up and, as with pills hate feeling reliant on something as heavily as I rely on the high from opiates. I suffer from serious depression so not only does the poppy tea help my back pain but also gives me that boost in morale and that 'I can get this fone' feeling that as a single dad I need do badly.
Anyway, the time has come I think to give this a break maybe permanently, maybe not.
I'm just looking for any tips regarding getting through the withdrawals of this. Given the amount I'm using and the amount of time I've been using them. Right now I'm trying to amass a stash of Meds to get me through the worst of it but really don't know how long that will be. I have a few hydros, some diazapam and some Librium, hopefully some lorazapam plus possibly some OxyContin if my one source pans out. I need to be as functional as possible but obviously don't just wanna get high off of other stuff while coming off the pods as that would just leave me in the same boat when my med stash runs out.
Anyone who has any experience in this and can offer any helpful suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thank you

I don't have much experience to offer but it seems like you are on the right track!

You seem to know everything you need to know about withdrawal, benzo's and other opiates helping. The rest is on you just being able to grind this out. I wish you the best of luck!

Have you thought about maybe trying Suboxone for a couple weeks then jumping off the subs??

Hi, thanks for the replies
I'm really not sure where I'd find any subs. I think they closed all the clinics down that were maintaining those programs. I looked into that last year but couldn't find any success. As it is now just lowering my dose of pods per day is causing me problems. I'm trying to prepare myself to jump off completely when I run out in a week or so and have the other Meds there to get me through.

The physical withdrawals are miserable, but the hardest part of tapering or withdrawals is really the mental stuff. The depression, anxiety, cravings, the return of any mental health issues and pain you were using the pods for in the first place but magnified... So it's vital to work on that stuff if you want to succeed. Therapy, groups/meetings, self-help, mindfulness exercises, books about addiction, various non-drug treatments, yoga, just to name a few, can all be helpful. The Dark Side forum on here is a great place to get mental support with what you're going through.

As for what you can do to get through the withdrawals, taper your dose slowly by gradually reducing it (over at least a few weeks if you can). Then there are things you can take to help with the withdrawals but be mindful to not just trade one addiction for another. There are a ton of threads on here devoted to this subject. Start with this one: The Opioid Withdrawal Megathread and FAQ. Then use our search function (click "advanced search" in the top right corner) to look for more threads (try using keywords like "opioid withdrawal", "poppy pod withdrawal", "poppy pod taper", things like that, and I'm sure you'll find tons of stuff).

Feel free to let us know if you have any more questions or need help coming up with a personalized taper/withdrawal plan :)

Best of luck to you, I know how hard it is!
