Getting high on opiates while sick....

Alright-I have the flu (perhaps strep throat) and yesterday morning I started taking the usual (Vikes 10/650) and just couldn't get high. I started the day out w/ a 50mg dose, and it didn't do the usual.
In all yesterday, I consumed around 350-400mg of Hydro, and look back to see it was a waste beacuse I was never really high at all...
Can anybody tell me how and why the body doesn't allow you to get that usual 'opiate high' while you are sick? And from personal experiences, has this happened to any other seasoned opiate users recently?

GOOD GOD!! You took that many vicodins? Your lucky your not in the hospital. Thats 22,750-26,000 mg of APAP....Lucky lucky lucky....Actualy you might want to go to the hospital just to make sure your liver isn't shutting down... And its probably tolerence not the fact that your sick.
 
I experienced the same thing , when I had a tonsil infection. I think it is because your body is using energy to fight off the infection and is using up your bodys natural pain killing elements and the hydrocodone is just replacing what your body used therefore, no extra high or release of endorphins. I just came up with this now so don't take it into too much consideration.
 
I think what Kane said sounds about right, although I can't recall ever having any problems with opiates when I was sick. In fact, in my weakened state, I believe I get more buzzed if anything, not to show off or rub it in or anything, guys. Plus, if it's a cough of any kind that I'm sick with, the Vicodins or whatever I may be taking help with that, too. It's really a win-win situation.

A)I hope this was extracted hydrocodone.
B)If not, how often do you partake in this sort of dose? As was stated, that dose alone could've sent you to the hospital...in either case your liver is not very happy with you....
Regardless, this sort of behavior should not be repeated, ever.
