your doctor will probably up the dosage before he gives you something different...doctors tend to stick with the drugs THEY like and have experience prescribing....you basically have a few options if you want to work him for more/different benzos:
-tell him you took 1mg and still felt very anxious (or awake if you are taking it for insomnia) after three hours then, out of panic, took another 1mg and it seemed to work a little better
-tell him it doesn't work quickly enough when you take it...he *may* switch you to a shorter acting benzo like xanax, although ativan is fairly short acting itself
-or tell him it works but doesn't last long enough and you have to take it again after five or six hours, and you may get a longer acting benzo like klonopin or valium
of course he might try to give you an SSRI, in which case you tell him you are afraid of the sexual side effects because you have a long history of impotence and sexual inadequacy
edit: just one more thing...you can always try the memory loss/leaves me feeling hungover complaint, but ativan is fairly mild for both of these, especially at 1mg, so probably not a good idea at this point in your scripting career
