For my anxiety, should I take hydroxyzine, buspar, or something else? I don't like SSRIs. I haven't tried SNRIs, but the side effects of SSRIs that bother me most (feeling like I'm tripping all day) are definitely present with SNRIs too, so SNRIs are out. And benzos don't work at all.

Any thoughts?

Can you save me some trouble and PM me the vendor you use? I'd be willing to try a few bucks worth of the stuff.

even if something is legal were still not allowed to list vendors/sources for it

that's just the rules of bluelight, that are in place to keep it operating smoothly and legally

this is a harm reduction forum, not a place to find drugs

there are plenty of others out there that allow such practices

I would say buspar is worth giving a try. I was on it for a few months. The first couple of weeks are rough side effect wise, but after that I thought it actually did a very good job at controlling anxiety.

Unfortunately after about three months it stopped working for me all together. My doctor said that's rare but that it can happen.

In any case it might be worth giving a try. Best of luck, I know what a bitch anxiety can be.

hydroxyzine is a safe, non addictive, non-harmfull drug to take against anxiety.. it is not as "strong" as benzos, but 100mg 3 times a day should really help

I've also heard/read that Lyrica (Pregabalin) i effective against anxiety but i don't knoow much about it

Pregabalin (Lyrica) is a fantastic drug for combating anxiety, for both generalized and social. It has really helped me the past couple years. It is pretty much non-addictive although it is listed to have minimal addiction potential. Withdrawals are less than anti-depressants, I've gone off it for a year before and experienced very mild withdrawals. They also don't leave you as drowsy as benzodiazepines. Tolerance to the anxiolytic effects don't grow nearly as quick either.

hated buspar.

honestly, xanax really does do the trick for me. When I'm really freaking out it calms me down.

It also puts me into a deep peaceful sleep if I'm having an anxiety attack in the evening.

For me, two things have worked to lessen (not eliminate) anxiety. However I have social anxiety disorder (basically extreme self consciousness). It's gotten rid of COMPLETELY my generalized anxiety and OCD symptoms.

Weed, and klonopin. I've heard Xanax works wonders too but is highly addictive (my doc said it's akin to crack).

If you go the weed route, make sure you use 100% indica (strain of weed if you didnt know).

my friend is on hydroxyzine and she told me that it works wonders. i had another friend who was on buspar. buspar takes awhilefor it to get into your system for you to see effects i guess, i did a buspar once though because i wanted to see if it worked for anxiety and it made my brian feel like it was in a roller coaster and i freaked out. ive never done hydroxyzine, wanna try it thought becuase i have bad anxiety also. but xanax is the only thing that works for me... how come ssri's dont work? well i mean everyones different but i was living in hell for the past 6 months with anxiety and didnt wanna take an ssri but now that ive started it my life is 10x better. you should just try out the hydroxyzine first, and then go from there.

Sounds about right, the side effects are rather extreme at first, and not in any sort of pleasant way. When I was on the medication I had to buy a pill splitter and started by taking 1/4 of one of the 5mg three times a day. At this low dose the side effects weren't as noticeable. From there my doctor slowly worked the dose up to where it should be, around 15mg three times a day.

Within about three weeks any of the negative side effects had went away and my overall anxiety level was greatly decreased.

Just a word to the wise, with this medication it's nothing you can take to quickly circumvent a panic attack. You have to take it regularly, and then either it works or it doesn't.

On another note...

Vitamin B Complex

I take 50mg tablets, one a day. The formulation for the one I take is as follows.

-----
Thiamin 50mg
Riboflavin 50mg
Niacin 50mg
Vitamin B6 50mg
Folic Acid 400 mcg
Vitamin B12 50mcg
Biotin 50mcg
Pantothenic Acid 50 mg
Choline 50mg
Inositol 50mg
PABA 50mg

These we recommended to me by one of my doctors since I have generalized anxiety disorder. They do seem very effective at reducing much of the day to day anxiety I normally experience. Though, I still do suffer occasional panic attacks and am Rx-ed other medicine to those ends.

For the amazing amount of good they do, there were no noticeable side effects so it's something that is worth giving a try. B complex also improved energy production and metabolism.

to all of you suggesting benzos as a first course of action against anxiety that is very bad advice

Before taking Xanax I was put through about 3 years of SSRIs (Paxil, Prozac, Zoloft), SNRIs (Effexor, Cymbalta) and anti-psychotics (Risperdal, Seroquel, Zyprexa). These drugs didn't help at all, and they made me gain about 60 pounds even though I was eating healthy and exercising daily. They also changed my personality to a person who was nearly completely apathetic to everything. Some of these drugs are known to cause a very nasty withdrawal (Paxil, Effexor) and some are even contraindicated in people with a family history of obesity (Zyprexa) or diabetes (Seroquel).

I have been taking the same dosage of Xanax since November of 2005. I still haven't built a complete tolerance to its anti-anxiety effect. I've slowly been able to lose the weight I gained while on the above mentioned medications. I've gotten most of my personality back (e.g: I'm able to actually laugh while watching a comedy and so forth) and I've been nearly completely panic free. Yes this drug may be habit forming and yes withdrawal can be dangerous (mostly at high doses).

If you are genuinely suffering from panic disorder, no I'm not gonna recommend you take SSRIs or SNRIs or anti-psychotics. I'm gonna recommend something that worked for me and still does work for me and that would be Xanax.

If you are prescribed it, make sure you watch how you use it. It's not a drug you wanna run out of early.

Ok, so hydroxyzine, pregabalin, maybe buspirone. I'll have to think about which one to try first.

To everyone telling me about how wonderful xanax is, don't waste your breath. I have a xanax prescription, and that stuff INDUCES panic attacks sometimes. SSRIs do too.

As for weed, it's been 3 weeks since I've smoked any and just last night I started seeing the weed-induced CEVs while I was lying in bed. But the weed I smoked was really awful. I've never had pure indica, and I have no way of getting that anyway.
