Bluelighter
Sex: male
Weight: 11 st (70kg)
Dosage: roughly 1.5ml per hour for 3 hours plus roughly 0.5ml just under an hour later
result: fell asleep in pub toilet for half an hour. Oops!
I was aware that there is a fine line to walk with this drug between a nice dose and a knockout dose, and I pride myself on being extremely careful with all drugs. I research massively on all the drugs I take and plenty I don't, and still managed to give myself a mild overdose. It could have ended a lot worse, I was dry retching just before passing out, but fortunately didn't vomit in my sleep. Mostly I was just embarrassed, I was out with a group who mainly stick to alcohol and have never even heard of GBL, and I didn't want them to have to deal with me acting out of control.
What went wrong?
Previously I've taken about 1-1.5ml every 1-1.5 hours, and this led me to think that 1.5ml per hour was within safe limits. Evidently it wasn't - if I'm going to be taking G continually throughout the night I'll need to measure dosage and timing more carefully and keep it more moderate. With hindsight, it should have been obvious I'd taken too much - I was getting flashes of colour before my eyes, was staggering as I walked and getting "electric shocks" in my elbows and knuckles. But I was too wasted to notice the warning signs. The other factor was that I'd diluted it with water and was swigging from a little bottle instead of carefully measuring a pure dose as normal. I knew I had exactly 6ml total and took roughly 1/4 each time but might've had a bit too much on each swig.
Any advice for the kids?
Like any drug, this can be taken safely, but you have to be very careful. You'll hear this everywhere, but there really is not much difference between the right dose and an overdose. Get to know your dose first by starting very low (say 1ml) and letting it wear off completely before trying a higher dose (wait at least a couple of hours). I did that and I've always been fine when I only dose once or twice in a night. Then to get to know how to take it continually over a night, start off with a few nights of infrequent, low doses, gradually increasing the nightly frequency and dose til you hit that sweet spot. I didn't do this and the results could have been disastrous. Preferably have people around who aren't on G and understand the risks. Other than that, the usual reading of Erowid, Bluelight etc which naturally you all do anyway.
So there you go. Fortunately no harm was done this time, think my mates were somewhat bemused by me acting completely normal all night, disappearing for half an hour, then coming back still basically sober to say I'd passed out! There goes my credibility as a smart druggie. I'd just been explaining what a nice alternative to alcohol it was too, keeping you clear headed and not making you drowsy.
EDIT: corrected dosage
