Gauging Drugs

hey, i was wondering how other people gauge a drugs effects when explaining them to first time users or people intrested in using, for example, i gauge a drugs effectivness on how easy it is to be around drunk people on it:

codeine: good high but not strong enough to be around drunkards, they WILL ruin your buzz.

tramadol: strong high, the weakest opiate ive found that makes drunk people tolerable, removes inhibitions enough to be around the pissed and not feel silly and worry about what they are doing, in fact im sure ive felt like ive been having a better time than they have.

morphine: doesnt matter who is there, drunk or not, if you have had a good dose you wont be aware/care anyway.

^ that is how i go about it, so they can know what to expect and not go overboard.

does anyone else here have ways of doing this?

Usually just compare them to drugs they have already done.

But explaining the effects of drugs to someone who has never used them, is like explaining music to a man who was born deaf.

i must rephrase because i enjoy stimulating opiates with others (oxycodone, tramadol, ect..). however, i tend to stick to solitude when i choose sedative opiates.

As this is quite a subjective and potentially fairly long and social discussion, it doesn't really fit with BDD guidelines (see my sig) so I'm going to move it over to Drug Culture to see if it fits better there :)

Thanks DP!

BDD > DC

^ okay sorry about that, i really wasnt sure where to put so i though BDD seemed like the best place which is why i tried to make it atleast remotly harm reduction related (which i suppose is sorta like cheating aha) but yeah thanks :)

I feel like as the more you do, you start to relate your experiences only to your own past journeys.
I so say myself the more I've gotten into my drug use the more secluded I've become.

^ sorry to hear that, i know exactly how you feel if you ever want to chat and whatnot send me a PM im always up for making new friends lol i lost alot of mine through drug addiction and its always nice to have a little (but not too much) human interaction ;)

I just try to describe how they feel. If I were explaining the effects of an opiate to an opiate naive individual it might go something like this: Opiates are subtle in certain ways, but are very pleasurable. They cause strong euphoria, and you feel very warm and very content. All of your fears, aprehensions, and anxieties fade, and you just feel good. You might feel stimulated, and sedated at the same time. They often cause a very dreamy feeling, and can cause you to nod, which is somewhat like when you are half-awake in the morning just feeling really good, going in and out of consciousness. Their effects are unique, and truly amazing, but you can't know them until you use for yourself.

Even after using opiates recreationally for nearly two years now, at times pretty regularly, I still cannot explain the high to other people. The best explanation I've come up with is, "It's like drinking a nice warm cup of tea, crawling into bed and finding that perfect spot right before you drift off to sleep." It's such a subtle high. It's not like smoking weed or anything else where you know you're high. You won't jump up out of your seat and shout, "I'm so fucked up!" after eating some oxy or blowing some dope.

^ maybe not shouting but whenever i get that good hit from a line of dope i might say to myself "woah im fucked up"

i also use the past experiences. heroin for my is like being stoned without the lethergy but obvioulst much better

i dunno tramadol can really fuck you up, its quite an in your face high for an opiate, very different from the rest of them ive tried.

A friend of mine got some adderall for the first time the other day. Here is the general explanation I gave him:

"It will basically make you love doing any task, not matter how boring it is. If you are driving, you will do so with such precision that you will be driving perfectly in the center of the lane. Your brain will kinda reward you for concentrating on anything so it will make you want to concentrate on whatever you are doing."

"...Your brain will kinda reward you for concentrating on anything so it will make you want to concentrate on whatever you are doing."

That's pretty much exactly it. It feels really, really good to perform even the smallest, simplest task and do a good job.

It's hard, but apart from general qualitative descriptors (eg. it will make you "stoned/sedated/stimulated/dreamlike") and comparing to other drugs they may have tried - with many people this is only alcohol so it's quite difficult - I will usually try to explain what kinds of activities I and people generally find pleasurable while on the drug, and what one might expect to do, what kind of music one would listen to, etc. I also try to gauge how "fucked up" they will get, ie. will they be able to hold a coherent conversation, will they look like they're totally whacked out; so in addition to what they should or might like to do, what they will be able to do.
