Gabapentin saturation and bioavailability. Thoughts?

Hey guys. Usual user of drugforums but I've decided to join the ranks of bluelighters now! Anyways, I was just wondering if someone could better inform me on the topic of bioavailability and saturation when it comes to gabapentin. I've previously read that no matter how much gabapentin you take after a certain point, you no longer absorb anymore. But in my experience, if I take let's say 1200mg vs 2400mg, I notice a very significant difference in the effects of the different dosages. Any thoughts?

me too. I can take 13.000 mg and feel all of it....But if I do that over and over it stops working....I like those days when I go a week taking my normal dose and take six 600 mg and get blasted.....I don't think all the info on gabapentin is correct but I may be wrong.....Enjoy your gabapentin yo......

Basically, the larger the dose taken at once, the less of the total amount consumed is absorbed. There is a transporter in the brain that once saturated, until it clears up, any more of the drug that was consumed gets wasted.

There is a trick to get the most out of the drug, however. The staggering method. If you space out smaller doses around 30-45 minutes apart, that gives time for the transporter to be available for more of the drug. Also, fatty foods and acidity help increase BA.

Gabapentin has terrible bioavailability. Yes, you will indeed get fucked up off it if you take a large dose, but if you want to get the most out of it, and be able to stretch your supply out more, then stagger it.

This has been discussed numerously times before.. you will want to take many small doses with a little time in-between for achieving higher bioavailability. Pregabalin & Phenibut don't seem to have that issue (to the same extent).

Yes..13,000mg is a staggering amount -pun intended...but, I know someone that does take that over the course of a day. And I am not saying that in a "SWIM" way lol. If it were me, I'd say it...I've already put all my stuff out there on BL.

I take 800mg 3x a day of Neurontin/GABA...and honestly, I feel the same as when I was started at 400 then 600mg 3x day. I understand taking it in a large quantities will produce the feeling you get with Lyrica/Pregablin. But you will blow through your script fast. Personally, I need my gaba 3x/day.

Why don't you get an Rx for Lyrica instead? What you like is the feeling of the pregablin that's in Neurontin- Gabapentin is an weaker analog drug of Pregablin/Lyrica.

Agreed with most of everything that was posted recently. Yes, this topic is " beating a dead horse" , but the GABA's pique people's interest, it seems lol..I thought I was the only one for a while.

I was always under the same assumption that this is how the medication works and that you should stagger doses.... but I agree with the above-poster sonicwhite. I can take 3,000mgs at once and 6,000mgs at once and the difference is exactly as I'd expect it to be- the high was basically doubled. So I have stopped staggering my doses as I am not convinced it helps.

Wow, I'm prescribed GABA myself and I had no idea it was used as a recreational thing. What is the "high" like? I've also noticed it helps tremendously for opiate WD but I'm sure you guys already knew that. ;)
