Seeing that the thread is some 4 years old, I would think the poster is no longer ponder the specific issue of gabapentin induced melancholy.
The individual who dug up this thread from the grave was speaking largely about the use of this compound as a drug of recreation/abuse.
And in regards to the question concerning the downstream events of calcium channel-blockers; a step by step breakdown would be lengthy as there are multiple classes of Ca2+ channels, and as in the case of gabapentin, compounds with the ability to attenuate these channels have other activities as well (Na+ channel blockade, etc). I know you (ebola) are familiar with the general principles of these classes as a whole, so I am not quite sure what you are specifically asking....
In any case, when used in massive doses (20g???) gabapentin is surely subject to tachyphylaxis, but as far I know, this generally dose not occur with gabapentin, especially when compared to other AED's......
