I've tried searching everywhere and can't find answers. My anxiety is really bad and I'm wondering if it'd be safe to take 50mg of liquid gabapentin meant for my cat that we have leftover from when he was neutered a few months ago. Any advice would be helpful

I’m sorry I can’t help you, but I feel like I’ve seen similar questions asked here before.
This is not meant to sound patronizing, I swear lol, but do you know how to use the search function? It’s on the top right of your screen.

You can search for pretty much anything you think might be on here. There so much info on this site

Good luck!

Don't steal your cat's drugs.

How bad is your anxiety? You tried the usual stuff exercise, meditation, breathing?

Yeah should be fine to take that but how much relief you get is debatable. Poor cat.

I hope you feel better soon.

I apologize, you clearly stated you had searched everywhere.
Hope you manage to feel a little better.

I'm not stealing medicine that my cat needs, I love him dearly and I wouldn't do that. It was leftover from a few months ago when he was neutered and I was supposed to throw it away

Wouldnt you want your pet to have a better emergency stash of meds in case something were to happen, than you??

Have a beer, glass of wine if you can tolerate alcohol in small amounts (i.e. are not a recovering alcoholic)

Are you in the US?? If so, I might go to a gas station/corner store and get one of those overpriced kratom shots or seltzers.

Yeah, it's not gonna work unless you've got about a limitless amount. I wouldn't bother, it'll probably taste like death and not have effects anyway. What's the ml per 50mg and how much do you have? I think even 900 mg is a (recreationally) low dose of this stuff.

some people absorb it way better for unknown reasons. We know a fatty meal helps. Animals often require much different mg/kg, and I don't know how well cats absorb it but have seen it have an almost instant dopey/downer effect in cats. I had a sheep dog prescribed 150mg for epilepsy that did not seem to affect her much.

If your cat is ever in an injury, I would wish I had its leftover gabapentin before I could get to a vet.

Aye, fair enough. I'm sure you do love him lots and are obviously a responsible owner.

I don't think that dose is going to help you really even if you do take it. Is it an ongoing problem? Have you spoken to doc about it?

It's not an ongoing problem, it was more like a panic attack from a one-time situation. I used to take low doses of gabapentin and get a lot of anxiety relief. I must be one of those people who absorb it pretty well. I took ~70mg of it last night and got euphoria from all of the anxiety relief and still have about 6 doses left in case my cat needs it someday until I can get him to the vet. I didn't want to drink alcohol as I am in recovery (I know, I probably shouldn't have taken the gabapentin either) thanks for your input, man

Cool. Well that's good that situation is sorted and you didn't resort to alcohol so that's always a win.

You n your cat take care 👍
