How long and often can you take gabapentin before you get withdrawal. I am using it for opiate withdrawal but because I have relapses I am taking it a little bit more often than I would like for a medication with withdrawal syndrome. Not to frequently but enough to raise the question because of my experiences with benzo and dope withdrawal. I have been taking 1200-2400mgs a day for like the last 6 days and several other similiar usage periods over the last 2 months. Any experiences???

I noticed that tolerance to gabapentin and pregabalin increases very quickly. I haven't used them for days in a row but I'm sure you'll experiences gabapentin WDs if you use it more than 4-6 days in a row and then stop.

Be careful, I wouldn't use it for opiate WDs...

For what reason?

I've been doing exactly that and it's been just the ticket. I know plenty of people who have done the same without any issues. It almost seems to be like a get out of jail free card.

not a good med to take more than prescribed frequently, or for long periods of time.

The dose you take (2000 mg +) is a commonly prescribed dose. I took it for years at 2400 mg ( 600 mg pills x 4).
Depending what it's used for IMO determines level of withdrawl. Long story short, withdrawl wasn't bad with a slow taper.
Lycira kicks gabapentins ass any day of the week. I would switch to that if I had the chance. It works better and easier to control.

Sorry, i forgot to mention, I think it is a decient medicine for opiate withdrawl. You probably will not be able to cover withdrawal symptoms completely with it, but it will make it better.
